Eastern Michigan University Medical Lab Sciences Clinical Coordinator in Ypsilanti, Michigan

Title: Medical Lab Sciences Clinical Coordinator Employee Classification: PT Pay Grade: PT 09 Division: Academic and Student Affairs Subdivision: School of Health Sciences Department: College of Health and Human Services Campus Location: Main Campus General Summary Coordinates all aspects of Clinical placement for Medical Lab Sciences students, including, but not limited to, meeting with agencies to arrange placements, matching students with agencies/sites, visiting sites/students, counseling site supervision and students when questions or problems occur, and ensuring students have completed appropriate prerequisites before placement (for example, immunizations) as well as ensuring students are registered for the appropriate class while on fieldwork assignments. It may also include NASCLS accreditation activities and limited lab teaching. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Counsel and advise students in Medical Lab Sciences programs, to assist with their preparation for joining the workforce. Manage contracts with placement agencies or individuals, including, but not limited to, initiating contract proposals and requests for certificates of insurance, conducting contract reviews according to NAACLS standards, teaming with EMU Legal Affairs to ensure contract validity, conducting on-site reviews, and processing contracts initiated by fieldwork sites. Develop and maintain partnerships with clinical sites, recruit new sites, and ensure all sites are appropriate for meeting the objectives of the EMU Medical Lab Sciences program. Complete records and reports, including, but not limited to, collecting fieldwork evaluations and submitting grades to records and faculty in a timely manner, assessing outcomes, and conducting program evaluations, progress reports, new site feasibility reports, and special reports as directed by the program director. Ensure students meet conditions for practicum participation and communicate with site personnel about student progress. Participate in meetings and conferences including, but not limited to, School of Health Sciences faculty meetings, reviews of Medical Lab Sciences program curriculum content, attempts to enlist new clinical agencies/facilities into the program, and reviews status of existing partnerships. Serve as a liaison from the Medical lab Sciences programs to other EMU offices and departments. Supervising and maintaining laboratory environment. Perform related duties, as required. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science or related field. MLS/MT certification with ASCP and 3 years of clinical experience is required. Preferred Qualifications: A masters degree is preferred.

University level teaching experience in Medical Lab Sciences is strongly preferred.

Prior experience in counseling and advising students in highly preferred. Special Instructions: The Eastern Michigan University MLS Program, is in search of a full time Clinical Education Coordinator for their NAACLS accredited program. The Clinical Education Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating clinical practicum courses and experiences together with the Program Director and Clinical Laboratory Affiliates. This position will require maintaining affiliation agreements and communication with clinical sites as well as management of student and program compliance and all aspects of student clinical rotations. Participation in curriculum and program development and in quality improvement is also required. The Clinical Education Coordinator will also be involved in recruitment, advising, laboratory support and execution of the MLS Program mission.
