HME, Inc. Mechanical Assembler in Wyoming, Michigan

Production Assembler Summary:

Assemble mechanical parts, pieces, or products using various tools and equipment according to required specifications in a production line for firetruck manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Read, interpret, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to assemble equipment and products accurately.
  • Utilize a variety of tools for assembly.
  • Identify product defects and complete appropriate documentation when defects are discovered.
  • Rework and/or repair assembled equipment and products according to engineering specification changes.
  • Maintain inventory of products and components in the department warehouse and work areas.
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace and always perform work safely.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Installing Pump and Body Modules onto the Chassis with the use of an overhead crane
  • Hooking up/customizing/building of plumbing components that consist of the following different types:
    • Stainless Steel Pipe
    • Reinforced Flex Pipe
    • Hydraulic High- and Low-Pressure lines
  • Building up and installing Compartment accessories
    • Example: Shelves, Pullout Trays, Down and Out Trays, etc.
  • Installing end-of-line components to finish truck
    • Example: Rear Bumpers, Hose bed floors, lids, dividers, etc.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical skills and aptitude may include 2-5 years of experience in heavy truck or automotive mechanic work or equivalent post-secondary educational or vocational training.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and other written instructions or procedures, or learn to do so.
  • Working knowledge of mobile hydraulic and electric circuitry and the ability to read and understand hydraulic and electric circuit drawings or learn to do so.
  • Ability to use analytical thinking and reasoning for problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively organize assigned work so that job tasks are performed efficiently, accurately, according to the schedule
  • Basic computer navigation and utilization skills and knowledge.
  • High attention to detail, self-motivation, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • General Basic Mechanical and Basic Fabrication knowledge
  • Ability to read, identify, and complete options listed in the Truck Order
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Ability to safely use (with training)
    • Basic Shop Machinery consisting of
      • Band Saw, Portable Band Saw, Mag Drill, Tig Welder, Pipe Machines, etc.
    • Overhead Crane
  • Required to have basic hand tools and mobile toolbox, including:
    • Wrenches, sockets and drivers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Must be able to hold to the high-quality standards and repeatability of tasks required of a leading Fire Truck Manufacturer

General Physical Requirements: moderate to heavy work -- required to exert up to 40 lbs. of force regularly, occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 75 lbs. of force rarely.

 

Working Conditions: This position is subject to an inside working environment and will be exposed to:

noise - loud, sharp, extended impulse; up to, and occasionally more than, 85dBA (which may require the use of hearing protection)

vibration - directed to hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulder
