HME, Inc. Electrical Engineer in Wyoming, Michigan

 

Key Responsibilities:  Lead the design, development, and optimization of electrical harnesses and control systems for fire truck applications.   Create and modify electrical schematics and layouts using AutoCAD.  Ensure all designs meet NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) and FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards) requirements.  Conduct thorough analysis and testing of electrical systems to ensure functionality and compliance with industry standards.  Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, manufacturing, warranty, and purchasing departments to ensure seamless project integration and execution.  Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support staff.  Prepare detailed documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.  Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations related to fire truck electrical systems and controls.

Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, and Manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.

Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; Master's degree preferred.  Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical engineering within heavy truck applications, fire apparatus preferred.  Proven expertise in designing electrical harnesses, control systems, and using AutoCAD.  In-depth knowledge of NFPA and FMVSS standards and their application in fire truck design.  Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.  High level of attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.  Experience with project management and leading engineering teams is a plus.  

Working Conditions:  Primarily office-based with occasional visits to manufacturing and production sites.  May require occasional travel to meet with suppliers, clients, or attend industry conferences.  

Physical Requirements:  Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.  Capability to use standard office equipment, including computers and related software. General Physical Requirements:

Combination of office and production floor environment (no specific ratio) with light to moderate physical work -- required to exert up to 30 lbs. of force periodically, up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally.

   occasionally be exposed to:

                        noise - loud, sharp, extended, impulse; up to, and occasionally in excess of, 85dBA (which may 

                                   require the use of hearing protection),

                        vibration - directed to hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders from the use of electric and pneumatic.  

                                         (impact) hand tools of varying sizes,

                        hazards -- electric current; oils and lubricants; moving mechanical parts; chemical cleaners and  

                                         solvents; sharp edges on stainless steel and other components and metal shavings;  

                                         airborne dust, occasional intense light from welding in work area or adjacent work 

                                         areas; working on ladders, and scaffolds.
