Job Description

Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seeking a dedicated Power Plant Engineer 3 to join our team. This is more than just a job—it is a skilled position within our Power Plant.

What You'll Do:

As a Power Plant Engineer 3 at WRC, you'll play a vital role in performing advanced journey level work in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, electrical generating equipment and auxiliary systems and centralized air conditioning systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate and Control: All the equipment in the Power House such as high-pressure boilers, water pumps, condensate pumps, hot well pumps, oil pumps, diesel and gas generators, switchgear for electrical system, and computerized energy management system controlling heat and air in surrounding buildings.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform skilled and preventive maintenance on furnaces, air conditioners, air compressors, unit heaters, exhaust fans, humidifiers, water heaters, and steam traps.

  • Record Keeping: Record and maintain log of all testing, results and maintenance in the proper manual.

  • Effective Communication: Communicate information effectively to individuals and groups, tailoring your approach to the audience and nature of the information and responding appropriately to others.

Key Competencies:

Successful candidates for this position will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Technical Knowledge: Apply principles, methods, and procedures used in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, electrical generating turbines and generators, centralized air-conditioners, and auxiliary equipment.

  • Safety Knowledge:Observe plant safety and accident prevention measures required for operating, maintaining, and repairing all heating or power plant equipment.

  • Needs Assessment: Analyze and diagnose equipment malfunctions, isolate the defective components, and make necessary repairs or replacements.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to three years of full-time work in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting 30 semester hours of accredited coursework from a military school or recognized trade or vocational school in power plant engineering principles including the operation, maintenance and repair of steam boilers for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of one year;

OR

employees withcurrentcontinuous experience in the state Executive Branch that includes experience equal to one year of full-time experience as a Power Plant Engineer 2.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority, certain employees in this class may be required to obtain a Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Chapter 100D, Iowa Code.

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required certification, license and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
