Marine Biological Laboratory Postdoctoral Scientist - Salt marsh symbiosis among cordgrass and sulfur cycling microbes in Woods Hole, Massachusetts
Description
Position Summary:
The MBL is seeking a candidate for the position of Postdoctoral Scientist in the laboratories of Dr. Zoe Cardon and Dr. Blair Paul. Funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Symbiosis in Aquatic Systems Initiative, the project is investigating interactions among sulfur cycling microbes and salt marsh cordgrass (Sporobolus alterniflorus) roots. Axenic plants are in hand; development of an approach to engineer sulfur oxidizing or sulfate reducing microbes is a major goal. The postdoc would have latitude to explore S-cycling-microbe-root associations, including, for example, potential plant growth modification as a function of S-cycling community membership and/or function.

The ideal candidate will combine experimental biology and bioinformatics to refine candidate methods for genetic manipulation of non-model microorganisms.
We enthusiastically encourage individuals from backgrounds that are underrepresented in STEM fields to apply for this opportunity.
