The primary purpose of the Paralegal is to assist the assigned business unit in working on legal processes as applicable to that group. This may include subpoenas, licensing, administration of contracts, preparing information for the IRS and state taxing authorities, and generally ensuring compliance with the legal, regulatory, professional and internal standards applicable to Moss Adams and its clients. The Paralegal will be called upon to assist with special projects as needed and provide general support to the business unit.

This specific paralegal position will support the Tax Controversy team. The Tax Controversy team provides services relating to tax examinations, assessments, and disputes with revenue authorities.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage legal processes as applicable to business unit (i.e. contract administration, records retention, subpoena, insurance program, maintain professional licenses, defense strategies in IRS and state taxing audits, etc.)

  • Produce documents and correspondence for legal and regulatory proceedings

  • Gather, review, and analyze pertinent information/documentation to assist in presentation of legal issues

  • Conduct relevant research, data analysis, and create reports for departmental use

  • Draft formal written responses to state and Federal taxing authorities

  • Ensure compliance with the legal, regulatory, professional and internal standards applicable to Moss Adams

  • Identify legal and business risks and escalate appropriately

  • Support the attorneys and others as-needed on projects concerning technical projects, firm policies, procedures, and risk management

  • Work independently with a focus on completing projects quickly and effectively

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required

  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience required; experience in a professional services environment preferred

  • Paralegal Certification preferred

  • Organizational and project management skills with ability to own and drive project schedule from start to finish, including managing peers and individuals senior to you

  • Ability to conduct research using multiple resources and analyze findings

  • Ability to develop relationships, build rapport, and effectively interface with all levels within the firm

  • Strong ability to understand problems, think critically, and identify solutions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex issues

  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to producing accurate work in a timely manner

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint) as well as web- based research software and internet applications

  • Ability to travel as needed, approximately 5%

  • May require some overtime hours

Compensation Range (Denver Market ONLY): Compensation range for California: $91,000 -$100,000 Compensation range for Washington: $85,000 -$98,000
