Fairview Health Services Triage Nurse Advisor - Oncology Clinic in Woodbury, Minnesota

Overview

M Health Fairview has an immediate opening for a Triage Nurse Advisor RN to support the Woodwinds Oncology Clinic located in Woodbury, MN and the St. John's Oncology Clinic located in Maplewood, MN.

This is a 0.01/casual opening, meaning there are no guaranteed shifts and this role is not eligible for benefits.

There is flexibility offered in work location between the Woodwinds and St. John's Oncology Clinic locations.

Responsibilities Job Description

In accordance with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing Practice Act, the telephone nurses’ primary responsibility is to independently triage telephone calls from clients. Using the nursing process, the triage nurse facilitates access to the health care system and/or negotiates a satisfactory resolution to the client’s concern. The triage nurse is expected to work closely with providers, nurses, and other members of the organizations' staff by demonstrating effective communication, teaching, and negotiating skills. The telephone triage nurse is accountable for quality assessment; efficient management of care and client satisfaction, in collaboration with the health-care team and in accordance with the contracts agreed upon with non-Fairview owned entities and clients.

  • Independently Triage Phone Calls

  • Acts in the role of patient and family advocate to assist them through the health care system.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in triaging callers properly such that all callers receive a timely and appropriate response.

  • Answers incoming clinical related calls via computer-based phone system using a high level customer focus and timely manner

  • Collects information regarding a callers/patients concerns, medical history and description of symptoms via the telephone using the nursing process. Uses symptom-based protocols to systematically assess and address the patients needs.

  • Prioritizes calls based on the urgency of the patients needs. Provides patient education via telephone. Carries out assigned nursing tasks and medical orders as delegated by providers or designee to support patient care.

  • Processes prescription refill requests promptly and accurately.

  • Documents in electronic medical records in an accurate and timely manner

  • Able to access MSDS software to assist employee with information regarding chemical spills, etc. in both emergent and non-emergent

  • Fulfills all organizational requirements -Completes all required learning relevant to the role - Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing

  • 3 - 5 years experience

  • Current MN RN License

  • WI RN License (must be obtained within 120 days of hire)

Preferred:

  • Bachelors in Nursing

  • Triage (phone or in person) RN experience

  • Teaching, mentor or preceptor experience

  • Electronic medical records experience and strong comfort level using computers

  • Experience using multiple phone line system
