Overview

THE ROLE:

The First Shift Chemist III will work onsite in the Quality Control Lab within our Innovation and Manufacturing facility in Winston-Salem, NC. As a third level chemist, will actively demonstrate expert level knowledge of a wide range of analytical techniques, methods, chemical principles and laboratory practices, and will perform standard chemical and physical analysis of inner and outer nutritional products in the quality control lab using wet chemistry techniques and instrumental analyses.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE :

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative chemical and physical analysis of raw materials and finished products.

  • Serve as a subject matter authority in multiple areas of the Chemistry lab.

  • Review/peer review testing results in laboratory notebooks and LIMS.

  • Investigate and research out of specification results with LIRs for product and raw material release.

  • Write chemical analysis procedures for incorporation into test methods.

  • Assist junior chemists to run experiments for release and stability studies.

  • Train with and assist Scientists with method trouble shooting, method development, and validation.

  • Maintain equipment and troubleshoot equipment issues at a sophisticated level.

  • Prepare standards and reagents; calibrate and operate sophisticated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, UPLC, FTIR, UV- Visible spectrophotometer, GC/MS, ICP, and ICP/MS.

  • Interpret test results and compare with determined standards and limits. Interpret and compare data and historical records and trend verification.

  • Solve practical problems, propose solutions, and carry out responsibilities. Document data in lab notebook and follow cGMP guidelines.

  • Train junior level chemists and laboratory technicians.

  • Review technical documents such as product certificates of analysis for accuracy and conformance.

  • Review protocols and reports related to instrument calibration and qualification.

  • Maintain a safe, clean and efficient laboratory

  • A Chemist III will have a development toward people/lab management or a technical / scientific role with ability to support scientists a lab management where needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

Skills:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities with miniumal supervision

Experience:

  • Bachelors degree with 5+ years' experience, Masters degree with 2+ years-experience, or PhD with 1+ years-experience in an laboratory of qualitative or quantitative analyses

  • Experience in various wet chemical analysis and/or instrumental analysis utilizing FTIR, HPLC, GC, UV-Visible spectrophotometry GC/MS, ICP, and ICP/MS

  • Superb knowledge of cGMP guidelines and practical implementation.

  • Nutraceutical or pharmaceutical laboratory work experience

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field or equivalent experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Previous cGMP regulation and compliance knowledge

  • Knowledge in test method development and trouble shooting

  • Knowledge in method validation including protocol and report writing.

  • Master of Science in Chemistry or Biochemistry or related filed
