Job Title: Crane Operator

Department: Project Execution

Reporting to: Construction Manager / Site Supervisor

Job Purpose and Objectives

The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of crane equipment for material transport and safe discharge, assisting the operations team to ensure the project is executed within the approved schedule and according to project parameters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operating crane equipment in accordance with crane manufactures specifications and in compliance with the company's standard operating procedures and policies.

• Complete lift plans and determine safe lifting capacities.

• Complete daily pre/post inspections and FLRA.

• Responsible for man basket setup, inspections, and operations.

• Ensure company equipment, material, and the work site are maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner. Collect and dispose of scrap, excess materials, and refuse.

• Participate in tailgate and operations meetings

• Provide recommendations for maintaining and improving environmental performance.

• Assist other crew members on site with general tasks as required

• Providing slinging and rigging support if not directly operating

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following technical skills and knowledge.

• Hand and foot coordination: coordinate movements of hands and feet in order to guide very large machinery in tight places.

• Operation Monitoring: read gauges, dials, and other indicators, and adjust them as necessary.

• Troubleshooting: be able to detect and fix operating problems.

• Field Experience: A demonstrated understanding of shaft excavation is beneficial

Physical Demand

• While performing the duties of this job, requirements include prolonged standing, walking and/or sitting.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Computer / control station work is required which will involve visual focus on screens and documents.

• Manual dexterity required to handle/feel objects, tools, and controls.

• Required to climb stairs and/or ladders, balance, stoop or kneel and/or walk on uneven ground.

• Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

• Ability to hear equipment alarms, voices, radio transmissions, and other noises consistent with construction sites.

• Ability to work in all weather conditions, inside and outside.

• Capability to work in confined spaces is required

• Working day and night shifts including holidays

• Pass pre-employment physical

Qualifications

• Education – An education / certification as a Journeyman Crane Operator

• Experience – At least 5 years of experience operating equipment

• Experience with Telescopic Crawler cranes

• Relevant work experience with Micro-tunneling and Shaft Sinking is a plus

The following safety tickets are required: (Bothar may assist with any required tickets to be on-site)

o WHIMIS, First Aid, CSTS or PCST, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Fall Arrest / Fall Protection

Other Relevant Information

• This position is assigned to the Yard, and to field locations during operations. Hours of work may vary, including night shifts based on project schedules.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

• Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol clearance is required

• Must be fluent in English (written and spoken)
