Summary
The primary responsibility for this position is to work with our mechanical engineering team in developing new solutions and helping to support ongoing process improvement initiatives.
They must be capable of performing mechanical design and analysis to meet system requirements with familiarity in electronics integration.
Must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to reverse engineer components from their physical configuration.
This position will heavily utilize development and debug skills for the development of mechanical interfaces and components used on multi-rack and optical automated test equipment.
Responsibilities:
Develop designs, create and modify documentation, support production with mechanical analysis and troubleshooting
Contribute to the success of a cross-functional team to develop solutions to production and field-testing problems. This could include initial design, prototyping, and environment testing solutions.
Develop and review product designs and analyze development and design requirements
Design of test fixtures, cables, interconnects with associated documentation
Analyze and specify tolerance in assemblies of precision components
Prepare and present project / technical information to peers, internal management and customers
Plan and manage tasks effectively
Facilitate documentation and drawings of mechanical designs from inception through release
Specific tasks include enclosure structural design, optical hardware analysis, thermal, vibration, other environmental considerations, design verification, prototype build and production transition to the factory.
Responsible for the design and development of more complex modules and complete products.
Must Have:
Excellent working knowledge with Solidworks, NX Designer, AutoCAD, or similar design tools, and 3D printing
Demonstrated practical experience with mechanical engineering design and analysis
Ability to translate requirements into physical design constraints
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience, or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
U.S. citizen or permanent resident
Prefer:
Hands-on personality who seeks continuous feedback on design performance and acceptance
Candidate must be detail oriented and be able to excel in a team environment where there may be gaps in information that requires research
Mechanical test equipment design experience in optical manufacturing environment
Experience in typical fabrication processes (CNC, welding, sheet metal fab, additive, etc.)
GD&T expertise and heavy experience in stack-up tolerancing analysis
