Job Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., a leader in Materials and Structural Analysis Electron Microscopy (EM), seeks a dedicated and motivated Contracts Specialist III. This role involves demonstrating extensive contract and legal expertise to respond to RFQs and secure customer contracts. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, working seamlessly with cross-functional business partners and meeting the diverse needs of collaborators, customers, and team members. Requires an individual who can work well with high attention to detail and uphold strict timelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, evaluate, draft, and negotiate various types of sales related documents (e.g., PO, MSA, Terms and Conditions, RFQs, RFPs) for compliance with corporate and divisional policies and procedures.

  • Understand the basics of commercial sales such as pricing, delivery, warranty, and payment terms.

  • Demonstrate foresight in understanding legal terms related to liability issues, including indemnification, insurance, and limitation of liability.

  • Administration of government-public contracts at the federal, state and local levels. Including review / approval process for contracts, reporting, fee payment and compliance.

  • Review complete package of bid documents to assess terms requiring approval, collaborate with functional owners to accept or propose alternate terms.

  • Assess and identify legal, financial, regulatory, and business risks within contracts and sales orders, and efficiently communicate potential exposure to company decision makers.

  • Assess risk profile for product families based on company guidelines and address blocking issues by seeking approval for agreement terms.

  • Support SSOC with sub-tasks of varying levels relating to price reasonableness, questionnaire responses, and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requests.

  • Understand revenue recognition, contracts, production holds, and book and ship activities.

  • Proficiency with proposing alternative contract terms acceptable to the company when customer and company terms differ.

  • Collaborate with diverse groups such as sales, services, order management, legal, finance, etc. and across the entire Thermo Fisher Scientific organization.

  • Maintain centralized contract files and a centralized database of finalized documents, agreements and bids.

  • Support Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodology and participate in initiatives as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or legal, or comparable experience.

  • Preferred minimum five (5)+ years’ of experience in government contracting and contract negotiating.

  • Good judgment in balancing business and commercial needs and potential risks/exposures with customer requests.

  • Detail oriented with a high degree of integrity, intensity and involvement.

  • Exhibited ability to handle varying degrees of pressure, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Possess a collaborative / integrative style of working and communicating to reach common goals and objectives.

  • Must be flexible and receptive to change in the workplace.

  • Proficient with communication both in written and oral form.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and familiar with CRM.
