Basin Electric Power Cooperative Mechanical Technician I or II (PGS) in Williston, North Dakota

[Basin Electric Power Cooperative is seeking a Mechanical Technician I or II (PGS).

Position Purpose: [This position services, replaces and performs mechanical repairs and non-critical welding repairs to plant equipment as assigned. Also, the incumbent completes light machine work, insulation removal and replacement.

  • Perform all non-critical welding in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Welding Society (AWS) Codes.
  • Maintain and repair all plant equipment and ensure all tools and equipment are in good working condition.
  • Perform cleaning duties and routine shop/ground maintenance as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all pertinent information on plant equipment.
  • Contribute to overall plant safety by adhering to safety standards, participating in safety training, energy verification, and by adhering to all plant regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with developing preventive maintenance procedures and guidelines for repairing and maintaining plant equipment.
  • Perform and support planning and scheduling duties, for planned and unplanned outages or as assigned.

  • Two-year welding certification program or satisfactory completion of an approved apprentice program for either an industrial mechanic or associated trade and three years of related experience as an industrial welder/mechanic.
  • Or high school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of related experience as an industrial welder/mechanic.
  • Completion of a welding qualification program within 90 days of implementation may be required.

Two-year welding certification program or satisfactory completion of an approved apprentice program for either an industrial mechanic or associated trade and three years of related experience as an industrial welder/mechanic.
