TITLE: Senior AnalystEMPLOYER: National Economic Research Associates, Inc.LOCATION: White Plains, NY (A telecommuting/hybrid work schedule may be permitted within a commutable distance from the worksite, in accordance with company policies.)DUTIES: Conduct economic research and analysis of background documents regarding antitrust, competition, and intellectual property cases. Perform complex economic research and analyze business, industry and market conditions. Conduct patent valuations based on analysis of patent citations and economic value of comparable patents. Conduct econometric analysis and analytical studies. Develop economic models to explain the competitive dynamics of industries, which will require performing extensive quantitative analyses to test model hypotheses and evaluate the structure of industries. Work with senior staff to analyze the competitive implications of a merger or acquisition in the relevant industry and prepare data submissions and analysis for review by regulatory authorities, including the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Design and prepare clear exhibits and tables that support the analysis and present results in meetings. This position has no dedicated full-time direct reports but will plan, direct and supervise the work performed by approximately 2 junior staff on a project-by-project basis.REQTS: Must have a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematical Economics, Data Science, or a related field plus one (1) year of experience in the position offered, or as an Analyst, Associate Analyst, Research Associate, or a related position. Alternatively, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematical Economics, Data Science, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered, or as an Analyst, Associate Analyst, Research Associate, or a related position. Must have one (1) year (or three [3] years with a Bachelor’s) of experience with all of the following: Applying microeconomic theory, including the structure of monopolistic, oligopolistic, and perfectly competitive markets, to evaluate key facts in cases relating to mergers and acquisitions or antitrust litigation; Collecting and analyzing accurate and reliable information and data including market data, industry features, and legal documentation, using sources including Factiva, Statista, public financial and legal documentation, and economic literature; Drafting sections of expert reports and letters to the DOJ to clearly explain and present the results of applied microeconomic and econometric analyses; Using Python to develop complex econometric models and efficiently import, manipulate, and analyze BIG DATA from structured and unstructured sources efficiently, related to Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) damages calculations and/or market structures, pricing strategies, and competitive behaviors; Applying antitrust concepts including Horizontal Merger Guidelines including Gross Upward Pricing Pressure Index (GUPPI), Diversion Ratios, and Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) to mergers and acquisitions; Utilizing complex MS Excel functionalities including INDEX and MATCH to prepare clear and well-formatted exhibits; Drafting survey instruments in cases of false advertising to determine product elements associated with consumer's decision to purchase; Valuing patents using statistical methodologies including Patent Citation Analysis.SALARY: The applicable base salary range for this role is $155,000 - $155,000 per year. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
