The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) will protect, preserve, and promote the health and safety of the people of Michigan, with particular attention to providing for the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations. MDHHS is one of the largest of the executive branch departments. MDHHS is responsible for health policy and management of the state's health, mental health, and substance use care systems. We are seeking college students for Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital. Preference will be given to Master Level Social Workers. This internship is an unpaid internship opportunity.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
- Interest in learning more about forensic psychiatry with severely persistently mentally ill adults in a state inpatient psychiatric level of care.
Responsibilities Include:
Psychoeducational Group shadowing with progression to facilitation,
Individual supportive therapy, case management, curriculum revamping and assistance with updating curriculum and group materials
Team meetings
development of NGRI Correspondence and requests
Learning to navigate treatment with forensic populations including Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) individuals
Completion of case notes and group note documentation
Candidates must be self-starters that are comfortable presenting science material to students in kindergarten through twelfth grades at local science nights and in-class room demonstration days.
Time commitment: Approximately 16-24 hours a week

Required Education and Experience
At the time of internship, you must be currently enrolled in a graduate Social Work program to be considered for the State of Michigan student programs. You must attach proof of enrollment, official, or unofficial transcripts to your application.
