As an Analyst on the UK Controllership team, you will report to the Manager UK Controllership and be responsible for the group, statutory and regulatory reporting as well as the financial integrity and governance of UK legal entities. You will also be responsible for working closely with the Audit & Finance Committee, Company Secretary, Tax, Treasury, Compliance, Global Finance Operations, Operational Excellence, General Counsel and the Business to support various legal entity initiatives.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Maintaining the integrity of the UK ledgers, overseeing the US GAAP month end close and ensuring entries passed by other Finance and non-Finance teams are in compliance with relevant US GAAP and internal Amex policy.

  • Preparing month end reporting based on legal entity P&L and Balance Sheet.

  • Acting as a point of contact for all legal entity related queries.

  • Supporting the preparation of the annual financial statements under IFRS (FRS 101) and the external audit process in partnership with the Legal Entity Reporting (LER) team.

  • Providing input to regular financial updates and results analysis to the legal entity boards and operating committees.

  • Maintaining an up-to-date understanding of all Regulatory and Statutory Reporting requirements (incl. FRS101/IFRS and the Companies Act).

  • Partnering closely with the relevant Line of Business Segment Controllership teams to ensure business transactions are supported in a coordinated fashion, knowledge is shared and resources are utilised efficiently.

  • Preparing and regularly updating legal entity forecasts.

  • Complete filings to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Office of National Statistics (ONS).

  • Monitoring intercompany transactions and ensuring appropriate service fees exist to drive accurate transfer pricing between legal entities.

  • Proactively seeking opportunities for process improvements across all areas of the role, through implementation of new systems and Oracle tools, elimination of non-value added work and streamlining of functional procedures.

You will be responsible for maintaining legal entity governance when accounting entries and processes are being performed by multiple different teams, many of whom are focused on line of business results. You will need to be able to coordinate effectively with cross functional teams, and influence business partners and customers on legal entity and accounting requirements. You will have to support the assessment and communication of IFRS implications, when the primary ledgers are maintained under US GAAP, as well as understanding and implementing local regulatory or policy driven changes to deliver high quality and accurate financial information within critical deadlines.

You will need to demonstrate personal accountability to ensure all tasks and activities are driven through to completion and delivered within the required timelines, handling issues and making decisions on a standalone basis, but applying sound judgment to determine when something needs to be escalated.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant, ideally with practice or audit experience

  • Proficiency in MS-Office applications and experience of Oracle
