Job Responsibilities:
Erie 1 BOCES seeks an Assistant Principal for our Northtowns Academy. The Northtowns Academy serves Grades K-8 State and Alternatively Assessed Students. Candidates must be NYS admin certified as a School Building or School District Leader (or equivalent). Special Education experience is preferred. Qualities sought include being highly organized, a strong communicator and personally engaging. Applicants should have a positive outlook, a strong work ethic and be compassionate.
Curriculum and Instruction
Works with the organization, direction and evaluation of all instruction within the building
Reviews with staff instructional materials, supplies and equipment for appropriateness and relevance to the program
Reviews with staff course outlines to determine areas in need of improvement
Assists with annual evaluations of all program areas
Management of Teaching and Auxiliary Staff
Assists with evaluation and supervision of both instructional and classified staff
Prepares reports related to staff evaluation and operation
Participates in decisions on tenure, retention, dismissal, and promotion of all staff
Assists with selection of staff both instructional and classified
Student Management
Assists home schools in the registration and scheduling of students in the Special Education program
Maintains up to date student information for teacher utilization
Assists in procedures relating to health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students assigned to the program
Provides a system of communication between and among students, staff, and parents
Buildings, Grounds, and Maintenance
Assists with planning and supervision of the maintenance program
Prepares recommendations for annual upgrading of equipment for facilities
Public Relations/Communications
Assists with the development of effective communication linkages between home, home school and center
Prepares materials for use in the BOCES Public Relation Program
Administrative
Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal
Assists with orientation of new staff
Conducts staff meetings
Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
Must hold a valid NYS Certification in School Building Leader or School District Leader
Special Education experience preferred
