Acme Barricades Maintenance of Traffic Laborer - (West Palm Beach) in West Palm Beach, Florida

The Maintenance of Traffic Laborer is required to perform temporary traffic control operations in order to maintain traffic on a roadway construction project in a manner that protects and conveys the public in an efficient manner within a specified work zone. Certain duties will be under the supervision of an Advanced Maintenance of Traffic Laborer. This position requires performing a variety of tasks related to highway maintenance and adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and maintain traffic control devices, installation and service work-zone signs, and lights
  • Set up and maintain assigned Maintenance of Traffic activity including and detours and lane closures
  • Coordinate services with the on-site client representative or officials
  • Load and unload equipment into and out of company trucks
  • Deliver / Pick-up equipment from customer jobsites
  • Coordinate activities of traffic control laborers to ensure compliance with MOT guidelines
  • Make recommendations on existing conditions to coordinate procedures for traffic maintenance activities
  • Complete daily paperwork and reports as required by supervisor
  • If an approved driver, may operate a company vehicle and maintain company standards with Motor Vehicle Record

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 years in Maintenance of Traffic / Temporary Traffic Control or related industry (i.e. Road Construction, Highway Maintenance, Construction)
  • High School Diploma/GED and be able to communicate clearly both written and verbally

Required Qualifications:

  • Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
  • Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
  • Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
  • Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
  • V ision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
  • Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
  • Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
  • Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
  • Valid driver's license required, will require undergoing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
  • Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
