Correctional Service Consultant – 70007063

**INTERNAL OPPORTUNITY ONLY – Must be currently employed with the Florida Department of Corrections to be considered for this position.

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Reg. Directors Office-Community Corrections Reg.4.

Salary Rate: $63,000.34

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Correctional Service Administrator in interpreting and monitoring compliance with statues, rules, procedures, and ACA standards.

  • Conducts on-site visits to observe the security operation; works with staff on issue needing clarification; participates as needed in staff training; serve as liaison between regional and institutional staff.

  • Participates as needed on operational/management reviews; monitors corrective actions plans; conducts follow-up site visits, and keeps the Correctional Service Administrator, Assistant Regional Director and Regional Director briefed.

  • Actively involved in ensuring all security aspects of regional facilities maintain their ACA accreditation; assist in reviewing documentation; participates in monitoring visits and mock ACA audits; and conducts follow-up site visits as appropriate. Assists in coordinating all aspects of the ACA accreditation process.

  • Serves as a member of the Emergency Plan Review Committee. Ensures all institution emergency plans are re-certified annually.

  • Participates as member of the Regional Emergency Operations Center (EOC) staff during any simulation or actual emergency in which the regional EOC is activated. Remains available to assist other regions that may be impacted by an emergency event.

  • Assists in conducting specialized training for such issues as escapes, hostage events, general disturbances, and natural disasters. Coordinates and conducts escape simulation exercise to include preparation of plans for each simulation and after-action reports for the Regional Director to review.

  • Coordinates the regional Drug Interdiction program. Schedules staff participants and insure they are properly trained prior to their utilization. Review the after-action Interdiction Reports and briefs the Assistant Regional Director and Regional Director.

  • Assists the Assistant Regional Director in monitoring the Quarterly Security Roster for proper utilization of security staff. Provides technical assistance to local facilities on roster management issues. Serves as the regional liaison with the state roster management coordinator.

  • Assists with preparation of overtime reports, vacancy reports, and staff utilization reports.

  • Review research documents and publications for innovative ideas that would enhance regional security operations.

  • Receives incoming correspondence on security issue; research as appropriate; prepares responses on behalf of the Regional Director.

  • Serves as department liaison to other local, state, and federal agencies.

  • Reviews as proposed rules and procedures and submits recommendations to the Assistant Regional Director and Regional Director for consideration.

  • Monitors all incident reports prepared by the Inspector General to identify any issues needing the immediate attention of the regional staff.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of corrections principles and practices. Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system.

  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques.

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations policies and procedures.

  • Ability to develop various reports.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Ability to plan, organize and direct program activities.

  • Ability to prioritize workload.

  • Ability to communicate effectively.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

  • Must be Correctional Probation Officer certified.

  • Must be able to travel overnight as necessary to conduct/facilitate training as needed.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • General Instructor Techniques certified.

  • Firearms Instructor certified.
