SCOPE OF ROLE:

As part of the LSO Leadership team, this person is responsible for bringing new products and programs from the Research & Development team into Manufacturing, and supporting the ongoing lifecycle of the products, processes and manufacturing through the Sustaining Engineering team. The LSO group currently consists of two primary business lines (Filters and Systems). This role will be based in Rochester at the LSO Center of Excellence (COE) and will be primarily focused on the Systems business, although full site support is within expectations.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on, team player capable of leading change in fast-paced, high technology manufacturing environments responsible for delivering products to large OEM customers. The role will include both leadership/coaching and hands on execution driving the deployment of technical solutions within our engineering team. The scope of abilities will range from being able to guide deep troubleshooting investigations on the manufacturing floor, up to and including the development of new product implementation plans and presenting in direct customer forums. Success in this role will be measured against key performance indicators in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Team and Interactions:

  • Lead a team of approximately 15 people, including a Manager of the Sustaining Engineering team

  • Work alongside leadership to develop and maintain an accountable culture and innovation across the engineering team.

  • Encourage and lead regular collaboration in the team, and cross-collaboratively. Build strong relationships with the Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Commercial and R&D teams, working seamlessly to ensure that new products launch smoothly (via IDEX Product Development Process); ensure ongoing production is maintained and profitable.

  • Lead and manage multiple projects at once, including working with customers and IH&S business teams to create timelines, budgets, and cost estimates for all projects.

Pilot Manufacturing:

  • Run the pilot production areas of the factory and own the metrics for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost metrics of that manufacturing team.

  • Utilize value-based leadership to create workflows and business processes on new products/projects as they are released from R&D; ensure manufacturability prior to launch.

  • Work with R&D on early prototypes, then becoming responsible to ensure scalable manufacturing operations that can eventually be moved into a volume manufacturing work center.

  • Direct the quality and process engineering teams that will develop and execute the product design process requirements and work with customers to ensure we have repeatable manufacturing and test processes.

  • Ensure engineering support for the Laser Manufacturing, Filter Manufacturing, Lens Assembly, Coating, and System Integration functions.

Team Building:

  • Build, develop and lead a successful team of engineers; ensure that our engineers and technicians are capable of effective working with cutting-edge optical components and systems, while in a start-up environment.

  • Coach and develop the talent, with an eye on building a talent bench for roles within LSO, and throughout IDEX Corporation. with the goal of being a net exporter of talent throughout IDEX Health & Science.

  • Partner closely with manufacturing leaders on operator-level training and development to ensure proper execution of processes after products are transferred into commercial production.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. degree required in a technical engineering field (ideally Optical or Mechanical Engineering); advanced degree preferred)

  • 7+ years in a technical engineering capacity with prior leadership experience; Precision Optics manufacturing and or sub-system integration is preferred.

Total Rewards

The compensation range for this position is $120,500.00 - $180,700.00, depending on experience. This position may be eligible for performance based bonus plan.
