Robert Half Staff Accountant in West Hartford, Connecticut

Description We are offering an opportunity for a Staff Accountant in the Higher Education industry based in West Hartford, Connecticut. This role involves handling various accounting tasks such as month-end close, journal entries, reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries. This contract position is ideal for individuals with skills in Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Bank Reconciliations, General Ledger, Journal Entries, and Month End Close.

Responsibilities

• Conduct month-end closing activities including preparing and posting journal entries

• Perform account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance

• Handle accounts payable tasks to ensure all company bills are paid on time

• Manage accounts receivable duties including invoicing, researching chargebacks, discrepancies, and reconciliations

• Prepare payroll entries and manage payroll procedures to ensure all employees are paid accurately and on time

• Use accounting software such as ADP and Concur to process business transactions

• Maintain and update all financial records ensuring compliance with organizational standards and regulations

• Collaborate with other team members to support overall department goals and objectives

• Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements and budget performance

• Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. GAAP, FASB), rules, regulations, and systems of internal control. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

• Proven experience as a Staff Accountant in the higher education sector.

• Proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR).

• Demonstrable skills in conducting Bank Reconciliations.

• Proficiency in handling General Ledger.

• Ability to prepare and analyze Journal Entries.

• Experience with Month End Close procedures.

• Excellent knowledge of accounting software and MS Office Suite.

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity.

• Ability to handle confidential information.

• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.

• Commitment to learning and professional development.
