Athene Head of Rating Agency Relations in West Des Moines, Iowa

Purpose:

The Head of Rating Agency Relations will lead and manage the company's interactions with rating agencies to ensure accurate and favorable credit ratings. This role requires strategic planning & problem solving, financial analysis, relationship management and effective communication to promote the company's financial strength and market reputation. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership to align rating agency strategies with overall business objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.

Accountabilities:

Rating Agency Management:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key rating agencies such as Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s, AM Best and Fitch Ratings.

  • Along with the CFO and Treasurer, act as the primary point of contact between the company and rating agencies.

  • Coordinate and lead meetings, presentations, and strategic reviews with rating agencies.

  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial data, risk assessments, and strategic plans for rating agency submissions.

Strategic Planning and Execution:

  • Help lead the firm-wide coordination of developing and implementing strategies to achieve and maintain favorable credit ratings.

  • Align rating agency strategy with the company’s financial and business objectives.

  • Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes to inform strategic planning and ensure compliance.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the finance team.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Communicate rating agency feedback to senior management and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Provide guidance and training to internal teams on rating agency processes and requirements.

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for senior management and board meetings.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

  • MBA or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation are a plus.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in rating agency relations, financial management & analysis, investor relations or a related field within the industry.

  • Proven track record of successfully managing relationships with major rating agencies.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of financial analysis, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to develop and implement effective strategies to improve credit ratings.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Proficiency in financial modeling and reporting tools is a plus.

$128,400.00 - $192,600.00 USD Annual

Annual Salary for this role is market competitive. Actual salary for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Depending on the role, a discretionary bonus plan or variable sales incentive may be included.
