Job Description:

Job Title: Banquet Set Up / Audio Visual Technician FLSA: Non-Exempt

Department: The Ron Pearson Center

General Function

Provides superior customer service to all guests of The Ron Pearson Center. Responsible for setting up, installing, operating, testing, and troubleshooting audio, video and lighting equipment and ensure that all banquet and meeting rooms are properly set in a timely manner, so that the banquet service staff may prepare for functions. Responsible for timely and safe breakdown of meeting rooms and AV equipment after event completion.

Reports to: Director, Ron Pearson Center

Primary Role

  • Proactively provides prompt and friendly service by exhibiting manners, care, respect, and patience in all interactions.

  • Responsible for setting up AV systems including sounds, video, lighting, and other equipment.

  • Responsible for providing AV & technical support in The Ron Pearson Center including running sound systems, lighting systems, video systems, IT systems, digital systems and more.

  • Maintaining and updating The Ron Pearson Center digital signage systems.

  • Responsible for maintaining the overall condition of all AV equipment which consists of fully reviewing all AV equipment & hardware. Suggests necessary recommendations and upgrades to management of The Ron Pearson Center.

  • Ensure the safe storage and integrity of data.

  • Works with event management to discuss event needs and procedures as needed.

  • Communicates with department managers and other team members regarding special requests.

  • Sets tables and chairs, buffet lines, food displays, staging, pipe and drape, etc.

  • Ensures meeting and event spaces are set in a timely manner.

  • Ensures meeting and event spaces are broken down in a timely manner.

  • Maintain and refresh event space inside The Ron Pearson Center according to company standards.

  • Refresh rooms as needed.

  • Keeps storage spaces neat and orderly. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry equipment such as computers, monitors, sound equipment, projectors, lighting, thrusts, lift motors, and other equipment weighing up to and over 100 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand walk for extended periods of time.

  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth, perception, color vision and field of vision.

  • Must be able to fit and walk in confined spaces.

  • Must be able to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, pull, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear and repetitive movement.

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of video playback software including Playback Pro Plus and Pro Video Player.

  • Knowledge of PowerPoint and Keynote presentation software.

  • Knowledge of Yamaha or other digital mixing consoles.

  • Knowledge of ETC or other lighting console.

  • Knowledge of Ross or other video switches.

  • Knowledge of Shure or other wireless microphone systems.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Other Worker Characteristics

  • Ability to work with 3rd party technology vendors.

  • Ability to tactfully handle difficult situations and ability to maintain composure under pressure.

  • Ability to multitask and adjust priorities based on new work assigned.

  • Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision.

  • Will need to be flexible with work schedule including working nights, weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions

The duties of the Banquet Set Up / AV Technician are conducted in a conference center setting with some outside work. This environment is fast paced and labor intensive and requires significant contact and communication with management, coworkers, customers and outside vendors. Great attention to customer service is the forefront of this environment.

Equipment

Standard tools and equipment used for AV operations. Also including scissor lift, pallet jack, and automotive vehicles, tables and chairs, pipe and drape.
