The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in West Caldwell, NJ is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Radiation Therapist to join our outstanding team!
Position Overview:
The purpose of this position is to provide primary support to the Radiation Therapist with RT treatments and hospital doctors with MRI & CT diagnostics while ensuring the best quality of care possible to our patients. The RT/Imaging Technician must pay close attention to detail and maintain very high standards of precision, cleanliness, and care. The RT/Imaging Technician must also be able to communicate well with coworkers to ensure overall accuracy and satisfaction
Education Requirements:
Associates or Bachelor's in related field
RT preferred, CVT or veterinary experience is a bonus!

Compensation is based on experience and skill level. $35- 45/hr.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform MRI, CT, and RT as requested by doctors from various specialty services
Perform daily and scheduled maintenance to keep equipment in good working order
Adhere to all OSHA and other safety standards and wear proper PPE
Follow all patient and operator safety protocols specific to that equipment
Coordinate with anesthesia and department personnel to facilitate proper transport of patient, ensure proper patient check in and check out procedures are followed, and thorough patient report is communicated
Manage OSHA compliance and monitoring for radiation safety throughout hospital (badges, lead checks, etc)
Document and communicate patient information accurately into patient medical records
Communicate patient status, changes in status, patient report information accurately and thoroughly with doctor
Maintain clean, dry and comfortable surroundings for all patients
Set up and maintain equipment as needed, knowledge of use of monitoring and diagnostic equipment
Coordinate routine and advanced maintenance with Facilities Coordinator and manufacturers
Safely and effectively restrain patients, adhering to fear free policies and practices
Record medical history/data accurately
Prepare and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by doctors
Collect, prepare, label, and test laboratory specimens as needed
Provide assistance with patient euthanasia and aftercare of remains in a timely manner
Provide basic client education on diagnostic procedures and RT treatments, as directed by a veterinarian
Re-stock and maintain cleanliness of ROS Prep, MRI, CT, and RT areas
Train less experienced staff members on proper policies, procedures, technical skills, and medical information
Cross-train to assist in other areas of the hospital as needed- (Lab, Pharmacy, ER, or other services in need will initially make up majority of day to day duties until Imaging Service builds up)
Experience & Job Requirements
Minimum of 2 years experience in veterinary field
Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Veterinary Nurse
Knowledge of safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practices
Comprehension of commonly used medical terminology and equipment
Ability to calculate accurate dosages and injections
Familiarity with CPR and rescue breathing
Ability to take direction from a variety of people under various situations and accurately follow instructions
Capability of anticipating needs of doctors and nurses and show initiative
Ability to react quickly and appropriately during emergency situations, and remain calm under pressure
Excellent communication/people skills
Good grooming and hygiene
Must have team-oriented attitude and promote positive culture
Considerable tact and diplomacy in dealing with clients affected by a variety of problems
Ability to work with and without direct supervision
