Job Description:

Perform internal medicine focused medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to assigned Medical center inpatients, who have been admitted to the hospital. Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous internal medicine care to hospital inpatients on a rotating basis with the other Hospitalists. Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions. Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate. Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. As appropriate to the position, participate in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Provide physician services to assigned Family Care Centers as designed by Medical Center when mutually agreed upon by Physician and Medical Center. Admit patients for hospital stays and attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Communicate with patients’ primary care physicians upon admission, when treatment plans change, or at discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care. Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Order or interpret the results of tests such as laboratory tests and radiographs (x-rays). Prescribe medications or treatment regimens to hospital inpatients. Train or supervise medical students, residents, or other health professionals. Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians. Direct the operations of short stay or specialty units. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Prerequisites: MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent, completion of residency training program in Internal Medicine, an Iowa medical license and ability to obtain staff privileges at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.
