Job Description

Southeastern Community College ( SCC ) seeks an Instructional Designer to design competency-based learning experiences and assessment activities for its Industrial Controls Automation and Robotics Technology AAS program. The Instructional Designer will support faculty in the design of learning modules for competency-based education programs and offerings.

This is a two-year contract position that is funded through a grant awarded to SCC by the National Science Foundation. Estimated work hours are 10 to 15 per week. Pay rate is $40 per hour. This position is not eligible for SCC benefits, except for retirement.

This position would start as soon as possible. The right candidate will have the opportunity to work remotely with the understanding that a presence on campus may be required as needed.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Collaborate with faculty and administration to design and build engaging, effective, high-quality competency-based education online learning modules for delivery in the Canvas learning management system. Enhance module content with multimedia technologies that support teaching and learning in the Canvas learning management system. Support faculty in designing or adapting learning materials to ensure alignment with Quality Matters Standards. Collaborate with faculty to design competency-based authentic assessments aligned to the stated competencies and performance indicators, including rubrics and feedback tools for assessors/instructors.

Implementation and Production:

Upload learning materials and assessments into Canvas. Work with the appropriate campus partners to implement and facilitate the use of technologies that support teaching and learning in the Canvas learning management system. Conduct quality and accessibility reviews of learning modules and support revisions as needed to meet Quality Matters Standards.

The Instructional Designer will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum & instruction, educational technology, or related field. Will consider a bachelor’s degree in the areas mentioned above depending on work experience.

  • 2 years of experience designing or facilitating teaching & learning experiences for adult learners and/or within higher education.

  • Experience designing learning experiences for online/asynchronous delivery.

  • Experience applying universal design and accessibility principles in education.

  • Experience working with a variety of teaching and learning technologies such as Adobe products, Articulate360, Canvas, Microsoft Teams, Office 365, VoiceThread, Zoom etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively.
