Utility Systems & Solutions

The Utility Systems & Solutions business in Siemens’ Electrification & Automation business unit oversees the expansion and advancement of EA's Utility and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) markets. Within its comprehensive product portfolio, one finds an array of offerings, such as medium voltage switchgear (AIS & GIS), Outdoor Circuit Breakers, MV Control, Power Equipment Centers, Overhead distribution products, low voltage motor control centers, photovoltaic (PV) Inverters, and supplementary MV and LV products. These elements are consistently integrated into full-fledged electrical packaged solutions deployed in utility distribution systems, substations, power plants, and renewable energy power generation projects.

We are looking for a Director, Green Technology Systems & Solutions . This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

The Director of GT Systems & Solutions leads a dynamic team of sales and order engineers, inside sales, order management, and customer support professionals in the photovoltaic business, including both central and string inverter solutions. This role provides strategic direction and technical expertise to support sales and business development teams, ensuring exceptional customer solutions. Responsibilities include overseeing the entire lifecycle of product or solution implementation, including pricing, proposal generation, post-sale integration support, contract management, solution collateral development, and strategic planning. The ideal candidate will possess operations management experience, technical proficiency, leadership acumen, and a customer-centric mindset. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with and leading our business development and project management office to drive business growth and project success.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead and mentor a team fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Provide guidance and support to navigate complex technical challenges and customer requirements.

  • Sales Support and Consultation: Partner closely with sales and business development teams to develop accurate pricing estimates, quotations, and implementation strategies tailored to individual customer needs. Ensure proposals meet quality standards and align with organizational objectives.

  • Strategic Planning and Implementation: Design and execute strategic plans and procedures for estimating costs, resources, timelines, and technical requirements for product modification, configuration, and installation. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Sales Enablement: Develop compelling technical product presentations and sales briefings to showcase the value proposition of offerings to prospective customers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, project management, and manufacturing, to define project requirements and deliverables.

  • Business Unit and Manufacturing Operations Guidance: Assist with planning and provide analytics to support the operations team. Utilize data-driven insights to optimize manufacturing processes, streamline operations, and enhance overall business performance. Actively collaborate with Siemens government affairs related to trade policies that impact the business. Work with trade organizations on behalf of Siemens, such as the Solar Energy Industry Association.

  • Problem Solving and Solution Development: Collaborate with implementation teams to troubleshoot complex technical issues and develop innovative solutions. Serve as a subject matter expert in resolving escalated customer inquiries and concerns.

  • Customer Support during Engineering Approval and Integration: Provide expert guidance and support to customers during the engineering approval phase, ensuring technical specifications and requirements are met for seamless integration. Act as a liaison between customers and internal engineering teams.

  • Systems Design and Development: Lead the design and development of UTL distribution product systems, emphasizing efficiency, automation, and continuous improvement. Implement innovative solutions to streamline quotations and ordering systems using automation tools and technologies.

  • Bidding and Tendering Processes: Oversee bidding and tendering processes, including the preparation of technical proposals, cost estimations, and bid documentation.

  • Risk Management and Quality Assurance: Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to minimize project risks and ensure successful project completion. Review and establish engineering processes and documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

  • Performance Reporting and KPI Monitoring: Provide monthly performance and KPI reports to management, highlighting key metrics and insights related to commercial operations, engineering processes, and project performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze data and identify areas for improvement.

  • Mergers and Acquisitions Management: Manage merger and acquisition activities, including portfolio gap analysis and strategies for inorganic growth and external partnerships. Develop strategic plans, product roadmaps, and profit/growth plans (organic and inorganic).

  • Strategic Pricing and Market Strategy: Define strategic pricing policies, set overall price bands, manage price realization, and analyze price trends. Plan and execute the go-to-market strategy in alignment with the strategic plan.

  • Product Roadmap Management: Manage energy transition product roadmaps in collaboration with regional and engineering teams to bring innovative solutions to market. Execute the product roadmap based on customer feedback and deliver key products and features cost-effectively.

  • Commercial Leadership: Provide commercial guidance to teams globally, address customer needs, and collaborate with sales organizations. Lead product marketing activities, including product launches, thought leadership, and trade shows.

  • Performance Management: Measure and manage product line performance with an end-to-end profitability focus. Conduct periodic reviews of markets and competitors to identify requirements for product enhancements and future developments.

  • Sales and Channel Strategies: Drive and execute sales and channel strategies to increase market presence and win rates. Develop and maintain key customer relationships.

  • Forecasting and Reporting: Develop monthly forecasts based on market trends and sales channel engagement. Create and update key business metrics and reporting for GT business.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • At least 15+ years of experience in senior sales or leadership role within the power electronics, photovoltaic, or energy storage space.

  • Proven track record of success in driving revenue and market share growth.

  • Proven track record of success in roadmap, business planning, and customer acquisition.

  • Proven track record of value pricing and value proposition development.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and/or managing manufacturing or operations

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with EBase, NX and TeamCenter.

  • The pay range for this position is $140,210 - $240,360 and the annual incentive target is 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
