Job Summary and Qualifications

Provides physical comfort and care to all patients assigned to them, answers telephone and intercom, assists in transcribing medical orders and nursing information, observes and maintains the cardiac monitors and telemetry units.

Always report changes in patient’s condition to charge nurse. Always report changes in telemetry patient’s cardiac rhythm to the appropriate floor nurse as well as the charge nurse.

• Assists in obtaining vital signs and maintaining accurate intake and output records and enters this information into the computer.

• Provides physical comfort measures through bathing, oral hygiene, skin and hair care, turning, ROM exercised, ambulation, ensuring that each patient has a meal tray and provides assistance as necessary with feeding.

• Complies with standard universal precautions and isolation procedures. Uses proper body mechanics in meeting patient’s needs.

• Instructs newly admitted patients on unit routines and assures call bell is always within reach. Always greets and directs patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner.

• Assists nurse with unit secretary duties. Such duties include but are not limited to the following: answering the phone, intercom, and patient call system, maintaining and organizing the filing system, carrying out physician orders, etc.

• When assigned to cardiac monitor remains at station observing monitors and notifies charge nurse for relief.

• Maintains accurate telemetry records and checks telemetry card for renewal after 48 hours use and records and distributes cardiac strips for CCU and floors.

• Performs other duties as assigned in a timely manner, cooperative, and positive manner. This may include patient transport, placing patients on cardiac monitor, simple dressing changes, etc.

• Maintains adequate amount of supplies and reorders as needed. Assist with checking and restocking patient rooms.

• What qualifications you will need:

• High school diploma or equivalent is Required

• Specialty training is Preferred

• Prior experience in healthcare or clinical setting is Preferred

• Basic Cardiac Life Support

• Must be able to work a PRN schedule, on Nights and Weekends, as needed.
