Job Description and Worker Characteristics, Job duties in order of importance: Follows rules and regulations. Checks for efficient Operation during tour of duty, assures complete charge of investigations as required by office procedures and work orders. Reports all irregularities to a Supervising Officer. Patrols Areas of Pike County enforcing County, State, and Federal criminal motor vehicles laws and regulations; assists other law enforcement divisions as required; watches for stolen vehicles; responds to public inquires and complains, and files appropriate criminal charges and reports; apprehends violators of the law; transports prisoners to and from facilities as needed; conduct building, business, and residential checks as required; Serves individuals with civil process papers including summon, subpoenas, warrants and other legal notices. Completes all reports in connection with field operations on shift to ensure records are maintained, clear, and accurate. Gathers information on criminal acts; takes statements from victims and witnesses; prepares and completes required reports; appears in courts as witness in traffic and criminal cases; and other duties as required by the Sheriff. The essential functions of this position are the physical ability to detain and control prisoners, manual dexterity to operate office equipment to include motor vehicles, computers, camera, radio, and other electronics and equipment as required by this position. The ability to drive a motor vehicle safely and for extended periods of time. The ability to make rapid and rational decisions. The ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing. The ability to carry out detailed but basic instructions. The ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports. The ability to work cohesively with other employees. *Must be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer. *Class C license is not required for employment.
