Generac Energy Services is a cutting-edge team that is working to provide end-to-end digital solutions and experiences for customers who are striving to manage increasingly complex portfolios of residential and/or industrial distributed energy resources and who want to leverage the power flexibility of their portfolio into energy markets and utility programs.

The Solutions Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and testing solutions that will make GES products work in the customer environments. The engineer is responsible for ensuring that our Windows Server based applications function well and are highly available. The engineer should prepare servers, install and configure software, load data, carry out maintenance work, accommodating changes required by clients, minimizing downtime, and supporting business users. The position is also responsible for designing, implementing and testing IoT connectivity solutions.The engineer should be able to use Node-RED or Python conversantly.

Major Responsibilities

  • Work closely with field contractors, customer engineers to provide remote installation and commissioning support to connect field equipment (including but not limited to generators, ATSs) to MiraLink cloud platform or on-prem Aurora platform per assigned tickets

  • Be ready to travel to customer site or Generac factory locations for hardware provisioning or programming

  • Provide application maintenance and support to proactively minimize service disruption and facilitate operational efficiency of applications including software, server environment, database(s), and integrations.

  • Plan the timing of and coordinate upgrades, patches, enhancements, and migration to new systems.

  • Participate in the testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans for Windows server applications

  • Keep up to date with new features added to GES products, configuration tools, API etc.

  • Setup hardware/ environments to enable testing of the implemented solution

  • Create standard operating procedures to setup/ configure hardware/ software

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s of Science in engineering (Computer or Mechatronics)

Work Experience

  • Up to 3 years experience with industrial electrical and controls especially with diesel or natural gas generators, automatic transfer switches and electrical power metering

  • Up to 3 years of experience working with technical aspects of Microsoft operating systems Windows 7 to 10 and WS2008 to WS2019 in relation to IT Application support, MS SQL

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of industrial networking such as Modbus, BACnet, IEC104, DNP3, TCP IP, OpenADR etc

  • Proven experience with installation, configuration of various distributed energy resources such as residential/ industrial generators, photovoltaic, battery and EV chargers

  • Professional work experience in analyzing computer hardware and software

  • Scripting and automation skills: Proficient in PowerShell, Python or Bash for automating tasks and configurations

  • Diagramming and Visualization Tools: Hands on with MS Visio or Lucidchart for creating schematics, drawings such as IT infrastructure diagrams, electrical/ controls engineering diagrams

  • Database management: Experienced in SQL for managing and querying databases

  • Ability to work with various departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan

  • Extensive knowledge and experience working with various operating systems

Preferred Job Requirements

Education

  • Master of Science degree, Computer or Mechantronics Engineering

Work Experience

  • Working knowledge of AWS infrastructure

  • Should have provided training to customers or vendors

  • Should have managed contractors

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Should have worked with logging tools such as Datadog, Wireshark

  • Should have worked with modeling tools to forecast capacity
