The Staff Electrical Engineer - Engine Management is responsible for providing engineering input to the electrical hardware development projects assigned to him/her including interfacing with cross-functional team consisting of engineering, operations (industrial engineering, production, and material procurement), sourcing, quality, service and marketing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilize systems engineering principles to define and develop a robust functional architecture for engine electrical systems (throttles, mixers, ECM, CAN Network, etc.).
Designs, validates, and brings new electrical hardware to market adhering to coding standards and best practices.
Specifies precise new electrical product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates a variety of increasingly complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safety.
Designs, develops, executes and evaluates fitness-for-use testing, product specifications and process validation plans for a variety of increasingly complex products and/or components; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.
Understands single sided, double sided, and multi-layered PCBs using industry standard techniques while ensuring considerations for DFM/DFT have been incorporated.
Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize increasingly complex designs for manufacturability.
Utilizes electronic design systems to design and create electrical schematics.
Supports product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
Acts as resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers.
Experience in electrical product design and development.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
7+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Capabilty of creating control software for IC engine applications and the understanding of automotive architectures and familiarity with vehicle network topologies and protocols
Strong understanding of automotive IC engine ignition and fuel control systems.
Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy on multiple projects of increasing complexity
Design experience with a variety of materials (ie plastics, aluminum, sheet metal) and basic knowledge of material specs and use
Design high speed digital and power management circuits to meet section requirements.
Ability to design circuits using industry standards and create PCB layouts
Perform worst case analysis of circuits in area of responsibility.
Ability to generate documentation that defines processor pin assignments and develop detailed design documents.
Active participant in technical communities tied to industry standards or regulations
Strong written communication and presentation skills
Ability to translate technical information to all audiences
Applies engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services and processes
Able to solve complex engineering problems
Strong technical skills

Previous experience with SAP or equivalent ERP
