The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible to help grow businesses by finding new opportunities, researching leads, establishing strategic relationships with potential clients and partners in the renewable and clean energy industries. In this critical role, the BDM stays on top of market trends in an active pursuit to expand into new territories and train our teams on new products using best-in-class sales techniques. This role will work very closely with our Vice President of Sales and other key stakeholders in the Energy Systems division of Generac.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and directs the sales strategies for our renewable and clean energy product lines in the Energy Systems Territory.

  • Creates and implements processes and training to ensure that the sales team is equipped to sell these products effectively.

  • Collaborates with the VP of Sales and other stakeholders to expand the territory and product lines.

  • Performs techno-economic analysis of specific customer site locations to determine the most effective solutions for their needs.

  • Develops and implements strategic sales plans focused on new revenue generation. Expands Energy Systems business in new areas.

  • Researching prospective accounts in targeted markets, pursuing leads and following through to a successful agreement.

  • Negotiates and closes contracts.

  • Grows revenue in assigned industry vertical, achieves gross margin target.

  • Directs the involvement of cross-functional personnel within Energy Systems to meet performance objectives and customer expectations.

  • Drives customer service execution to ensure issue resolution.

  • Develops and recommends accurate and detailed metrics for effective financial forecasting and resource allocation.

  • Forecasts, develops, manages, and achieves budget.

  • Analyzes and reviews sales trends to identify opportunities and threats.

  • Following the latest industry developments and stay up-to-date on corporate competitors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • 7 years of sales experience selling directly into the assigned industry. Ability to travel up to 50%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established relationships in assigned industry, 10 years of matrix or cross-functional leadership experience in Sales, Possesses in-depth technical and commercial knowledge of generator sales and project management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Excellent preparation of sales materials and presentation skills;

  • Excellent negotiation skills;

  • Ability to analyze financials;

  • Ability to develop strong understanding of company products, market competition and positioning.
