The opportunity

The AVP, Global Benefits & Wellness is accountable for the strategy and management of all of Manulife’s health and wellness programs globally in line with the organization’s strategic objectives. This includes strategy, policy setting, plan design, administration, governance, compliance, communications, and financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision for global benefits and wellness policies and programs designed to attract, retain, and engage colleagues and prepare for future workforce trends.

  • Lead a team of benefits and wellness professionals responsible for all aspects of benefit programs in the U.S. and Canada, including plan design, vendor management, contracting, communication, budget process, reporting and filings, rate setting, reserves, funding, etc. Provide experienced advice to other geographies on plan design and administration.

  • Continuously evaluate program efficiency, proactively assess risks and make recommendations for improvements based on industry trends and best practices. Develop innovative solutions ensuring programs provide value to every employee of Manulife.

  • Develop communication strategies, education and resources to build employees awareness and appreciation of benefits and wellness programs.

  • Globally maintain the highest levels of governance and compliance. Own the annual reporting on benefits plan governance to the Board.

  • Maintain an environment of performance excellence and pro-active enhancements where process breakdowns and errors are viewed as opportunities to improve. Mentor, coach and guide the team to maintain high engagement.

How will you create impact?

This important HR leadership role reports to the Head of Global Pensions and Benefits and is responsible for a team of 10 to 15 professionals located in the U.S. and Canada. While guiding the benefits and wellness strategy globally, you will be able to influence Manulife's employee value proposition and people's health globally. Your creative ideas will contribute to build programs that can appeal to all of our employees and their family.

What we are looking for

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in US/Canadian benefits and wellness strategy, administration, financial management, governance, compliance and litigation. Experience with international benefits environment is an added asset.

  • Ability to develop credible business cases for changes, supported by data analytics skills and financial competence.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with particular emphasis on communication with senior leadership.

  • Creative mentality, ability to think in an unexpected way.

  • Proven consulting, influencing and collaborative skills, with the ability to achieve results through others.

  • Consistent track record to guide a team in running large projects and exercise judgment in evaluating and prioritizing challenging business issues.

  • Experience working with actuarial, legal counsel, and consultants and negotiating with and managing vendors.

  • Experience working with a globally distributed team across multiple geographies and time zones.

  • Flexibility to work a minimum of three days per week in a Manulife office (onsite).

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$148,400.00 USD - $275,500.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
