Paint Supervisor

Location: Lansing, MI Salary: $75-90K Employment Type: Direct Placement with Excellent Benefits

Position Summary: Our client is seeking an experienced Paint Supervisor to lead and coordinate the activities of our production department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing industrial painting processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires hands-on leadership to maintain production schedules, optimize workflows, and ensure the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Production Management: Complete production plans by scheduling and assigning personnel, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, and revising schedules as needed. Report results of the processing flow in shift production summaries.
  • Operational Oversight: Review production and operating reports to identify and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues. Monitor and report key metrics and KPIs to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Standards Compliance: Develop or revise standard operational and working practices. Observe workers to ensure compliance with established standards and procedures.
  • Employee Relations: Resolve worker grievances or escalate unresolved issues to the Production Superintendent. Provide coaching, training, and support to team members to ensure a productive and positive work environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure that paint equipment and booths are functioning properly. Maintain compliance with state and environmental requirements for paint waste and usage.
  • Data Management: Compile, store, and retrieve production data as needed for reporting and analysis.
  • Training & Safety: Conduct employee training on equipment operations, work procedures, and safety protocols. Enforce company policies regarding safety, quality, productivity, and discipline.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work with other departments to drive continuous improvement efforts, reduce costs, and support Kaizen, 5S, and other initiatives.
  • Production Coordination: Adjust production plans according to changes in demand. Schedule personnel based on workload and skill availability, and coordinate activities between shifts to ensure timely delivery to customers.
  • Problem Resolution: Investigate and resolve personnel problems, identify solutions, and recommend actions to improve team dynamics and productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role within an industrial paint or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of paint application processes, equipment maintenance, and environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production schedules, optimize workflows, and maintain high standards of quality and safety.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to handle employee relations issues effectively.
  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Kaizen and 5S.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.

Education and Experience Preferences:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing environment, with specific experience in paint operations.
