SAIC has provided expertise in support of the many safety related programs under the FAA Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety, developing comprehensive aviation safety information sharing and analysis capabilities. The SAIC Team is well positioned to continue their support of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Office of Aviation Safety (AVS) including providing database management support, data integration, advanced analytics, aviation taxonomy and analysis, and modernization of existing platforms and systems. The Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) program is a broad multi-dimensional government/industry effort to enhance the safety performance of the aviation system through the development of state-of-the-art automated safety information/data analysis and sharing capabilities. ASIAS connects approximately 185 data and information sources across government and industry, including voluntarily provided safety data. This operation will primarily be located in Washington DC.
SAIC is seeking a Technical Writer who will:
Provide technical writing expertise to support ASIAS in the area of regulations, policy, and guidance for operations.
Identify, develop, manage, and evaluate operational policies and guidance.
Coordinate with senior technical specialists and support evaluation to determine guidance document processes and documentation are appropriate to meet the requirement.
Apply knowledge and understanding of Flight Procedures, research technical and documentation requirements to produce guidance materials for the purpose of communicating highly complex and technical aviation materials to a wide ranging audience and in numerous forms of written and electronic media.
Collaborate with diverse skill sets to translate operational ASIAS concepts into easily understandable documents.
Analyze existing and potential content to identify reuse, and evaluate observations to produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree is required. Eight (8) years of relevant, recent experience may be substituted for a degree.
Minimum of three (3) years performing technical writing functions with respect to aviation or related disciplines.
Experience with editing and writing technical articles, publications, presentations, and other materials.
Able to communicate clearly and effectively on research findings, technical developments, and other news and information to a wide range of external audiences.
Able to interpret and administer documentation/ communication policies and procedures.
Experience advising writers and researchers in matters of style, syntax, and usage to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications.
Experience in performing quality control over documents intended for external distribution.
Experience with working in interdisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of the regulations, theories, dynamics, and factors underlying the National Airspace System.
