Job Description:

The SVP leads efforts to strengthen ABA’s relationships and levels of engagement with strategically important stakeholders: its larger bank members. This role is responsible for membership retention, recruitment, onboarding, outreach, and engagement for $10B+ institutions. This portfolio represents approx. $18M in ABA dues.

Responsibilities include management of the Large Bank Group team and its respective communications, outreach, operations, billing, programming, and events functions. Collaborate with staff across the Office of Member Engagement and ABA – especially on policy-related matters. Ensures team development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve 98%+ membership retention each cycle. Execute annual dues billing process for larger banks each cycle.

  • Recruit new midsize member banks, in collaboration with ABA’s CEO and ABA Board members. Maintain knowledge of the industry landscape, specifically competition in this space, to develop ABA’s approach to the value proposition, dues offer, and onboarding.

  • Leverage communications to bolster member outreach. Create and disseminate all policy communications to midsize, regional, GSIB, and non-traditional banks, along with Bank General Counsel’s (GCs).

  • Carefully curate content and develop timely programming to align with cohort-specific priorities. Collaborate with other key stakeholders at ABA to ensure membership-wide communications consider the unique perspectives of larger members. Ensure consistent communications reach key stakeholders at each large bank institution.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact on large bank policy coordination, leveraging its communications channel to build issue-specific working groups, and to vet positions more broadly through a “fatal flaw” review process.

  • Educate members on the ABA value proposition and promote opportunities for members to derive maximum value from their ABA membership.

  • Develop and drive benefits awareness campaigns & webinars, in-person meetings, conference calls, zooms, and other mediums/formats.

  • Engage large banks in industry-wide grassroots and communications campaigns and enlist large bank support in flagship ABA programs including the Voter Education Fund.

  • Build cohort brand loyalty. Identify banker leadership, schedule events, develop programming & communications, and grow the membership of the American Bankers Council, the Bank GCs Group, and other key cohorts. Host monthly calls, quarterly discussions, and annual in-person meetings to direct and inform ABA’s policy and advocacy work. Charged with recruiting new members to these groups, sourcing priorities, and developing topics for discussion.

  • Develops recruitment and retention marketing and communication pieces, including collateral, web content, and engagement profiles.

  • Ensure data integrity of large bank contacts, committee participation, and member records in the CRM database.

  • Communicates recruitment & retention info, emerging issues, and priorities/challenges of large banks across the enterprise at ABA for staff awareness.

  • Manages the team’s budget function, forecasting incoming dues revenue, and expenses on a month-by-month basis.

  • Collaborates with OME and Policy Team members to model the dues formula and set the dues schedule for each membership dues billing cycle.

  • Provides recommendations and background detail on prospective Category C Board candidates and opportunities for engagement via Committee service, across ABA.

  • Assists the Chief Member Engagement Officer, Membership EVP, OME Leadership, and Executive Office with special projects, member research, development of appropriate engagement strategies, etc.

  • Supports Membership EVP with strategic efforts and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Policy, or related field preferred or commensurate experience.

• 10 - 15 years of related experience working in a member or client-facing capacity. Experience working within an association, or consulting experience preferred. Additional experience in Sales, Marketing, Communications, or Analytical experience preferred.

• 5+ years of management experience.

• Ability to successfully manage multiple assignments with conflicting or shifting priorities while maintaining strong communication with internal and external stakeholders.

• Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and excellent time management skills required.

• Demonstrable experience meeting deadlines and driving efficient, effective deliverables required.

• Self-starter with a demonstrated, high degree of initiative.

• Effective communicator across diverse constituencies with the ability to drive consensus.

• Able to work independently, as well as within a team successfully; ability to lead a team.

• Highly developed interpersonal skills and experience working successfully with C-Suite level executives, both internally and externally.

• Ability to travel (<20%)
