Citigroup Senior Vice President for Third-Party Public Policy Engagement in Washington, District Of Columbia

This new role within Government Affairs is responsible for the department’s engagement with left-of-center, bipartisan and nonpartisan public policy organizations, such as think tanks and advocacy groups, that influence public policy impacting Citi’s ability to conduct business and serve clients. This role will build relationships in support of Citi’s reputation and public policy priorities. Located in Washington DC, the role reports to the practice head for third-party public policy engagement and works closely with colleagues on the U.S. government affairs team and other departments including Citi’s Community Investing and Development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advocate of Citi’s public policy priorities to left-of-center, bipartisan and nonpartisan public policy organizations including think tanks and advocacy groups.

  • Advance Citi’s priorities on public policy impacting the ability to conduct business and serve clients, by developing and driving execution of a strategic engagement plan with the organizations they engage. Includes:

  • Build and maintain relationships that support Citi’s reputation and policy priorities.

  • Develop strategic partnerships with the policy organizations.

  • Communicate Citi’s public policy positions and their positive impact.

  • Represent Citi in meetings with policy organizations and in public fora.

  • Serve as a resource to government affairs’ management, colleagues, and internal business partners. Includes:

  • Identify, analyze, prioritize, and regularly communicate the business and reputational implications for Citi of policy views held by the organizations.

  • Build internal consensus on the organizations’ policy positions.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders when defining strategic engagement plan priorities to ensure comprehensive and coordinated engagement, particularly with external policy organizations that may have overlapping stakeholders at Citi.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience working with left-of-center, bipartisan, and nonpartisan public policy organizations, either from government, a major corporation, trade association or other business organization, a private law or government affairs firm, advocacy organizations, and/or think tanks.

  • Strong existing relationships with the public policy advocacy groups, think tanks and other organizations that influence public policy at the federal, state, and/or local levels and could impact the bank’s ability to conduct business and serve clients.

  • Prefer experience working on financial services public policy.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to influence and build trust with a wide range of audiences, including providing presentations to senior officials and stakeholders.

  • Experience creating and leading engagement strategies to achieve public policy goals, preferably for a business. Includes experience developing strategic partnerships at federal, state and/or local levels; designing and driving policy campaigns; and advocating policy goals to government officials and/or leaders of organizations influencing public policy.

  • Experience advising business leadership of public policy developments and implications.

  • Experience building strong relationships and influencing internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to travel.

Competencies

  • Public policy and political knowledge: Understand the relevance of government action on business decisions. Possess significant knowledge of the intersection of political trends and public policy that impact Citi business; be able to assimilate and summarize large amounts of information to analyze political risks and translate into strategy; proven capacity to design and implement an engagement strategy for a business in a highly regulated industry.

  • Collaboration and influencing: A team player with demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders. Can interact and communicate effectively and comfortably to a wide range of audiences including colleagues with substantial experience, senior government affairs leaders, and public policy organization partners.

  • Business acumen and results orientation: Willing to take ownership of responsibilities in a constantly changing corporate environment. Self-motivated with the ability to manage a set of deadlines and deliverables with limited supervision. Ability to think strategically as well as tactically to help address problems or advance business objectives, with the ability to improvise and adapt while being comfortable with ambiguity.

Primary Location Full Time Salary Range:

$182,400.00 - $273,600.00
