Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Practice Initiatives Coordinator in the Client Value & Practice Management department, reporting to the Practice Initiatives Manager.

The role can reside in the New York or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will work on multi-practice and firm initiatives, programs, and special projects that relate to and/or impact the Client Value and Practice Management department (the “Department”). The Coordinator will work with members of the department, as well as with other business services departments and lawyers, to help address practice group business needs and help drive strategies forward. The role will strongly emphasize communication and collaboration to promote operational efficiency, streamlined processes, optimized client service delivery, and revenue management.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

Operations & Administration

  • Provide support and assistance with various department processes, policies, and procedures that maximize efficiency and support revenue-management and revenue-generation for the firm;

  • Act as the department’s liaison and point-person to help problem solve, address issues, create opportunities, and ensure various firm/practice group priorities are met;

  • Provide support on multi-practice and firm initiatives, programs, and special projects that relate and/or impact the department and practice groups to help meet objectives; select example projects/initiatives may relate to: secondment/consultant processes and procedures, new hire onboarding, new technology development/implementation, lawyer trainings, departmental written collateral materials, firm environmental sustainability programs, etc.

  • Help arrange ad hoc, monthly and other periodic meetings, calls and other events related to the department and/or specific initiatives/programs/projects; Work with Manager to prepare related presentation materials, as needed; follow up with Manager on items arising from calls and meetings to ensure deliverables and goals are met.

  • Help edit, maintain, and update the department’s collateral and branding materials for various uses such as: client proposals/RFPs, internal/external web resources, events/marketing, recruiting, business services and lawyer onboarding and professional development, presentations, etc.;

  • Assist with the drafting/editing of communications, missives, memorandums and talking points for the Practice Initiatives team related to: overarching multi-practice group developments/objectives/strategies, team initiatives, project updates, etc.;

  • Help Manager record, measure, and report key performance indicators related to special projects, and drive cohesiveness across the groups; proactively report project status and share relevant updates;

  • Support project management needs for the Practice Initiatives team, including: tracking progress on assignments, projects, and users of the team’s resources; report highlights/trends Manager; lend related support, upon request, to other teams within the department;

  • Oversee maintenance of the department’s internal webpages, updating content and refreshing material periodically and proactively;

  • Provide support to firmwide environmental sustainability committees (Always Green), sustainability, and “green” efforts at the firm and office levels; assist with communications, events, intern management, and ongoing related projects; work closely with Manager to coordinate efforts and strategy forward;

  • Help manage the Sustainability Internship program by facilitating intern hiring, onboarding, and programming through firm outreach and supervision and review of intern work product;

  • Work closely to coordinate processes, tools, management and messaging related to optimized lawyer staffing and talent management (i.e., Akin’s ‘The Hub’ dashboard); work closely with Practice Management professionals, as needed, to help address staffing needs and talent issues/gaps as revealed;

  • Develop knowledge of various firmwide objectives, priorities, and developments to help ensure the department’s projects/initiatives are cohesive and “big picture” focused across the firm;

  • Work on special projects, as assigned, to help execute initiatives across practices and departments; promote collaboration and ensuring consistency of approach.

  • Establish strong rapport and working relationships with business services personnel across different groups, as well as strong relationships with lawyers within the practice.

  • Foster and encourage a culture of superior client service, responsiveness and collegiality.

    Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • BA or BS required

  • 2+ years in client service oriented functions

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the complexities of a partnership and multi- office global practice groups

  • Ability to prioritize, manage heavy workload and adjust to changing priorities, work independently and as a member of a team, manage multiple projects with specific deadlines, and complete tasks under time pressure as necessary

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and ability to work in various software applications as needed

  • Strong service orientation, work ethic and attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly and proactively identify and analyze problems, develop solutions and deliver results

  • Ability to use initiative and judgment to accomplish results
