The Massive Data Institute (MDI) supports computing facilities for faculty across campus interested in using MDI’s computing infrastructure for interdisciplinary research with infrastructure of over 50 machines for over 30 researchers, and over 25 research projects.

The Technical Manager ensures the successful implementation of technical processes. They will serve as a liaison between the technical team and the wider Georgetown and external partnership community. The incumbent oversees all technical matters at MDI, managing our technical team, and working collaboratively with users, the development team, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of products and services in a timely manner. Reporting to the MDI Director, additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct interviews, hiring and training new technical staff as needed.

  • Provide guidance and insight to the MDI Director about the MDI compute infrastructure, contributing to product design and establishment of requirements.

  • Delegate technical responsibilities and monitor the progress of projects, delivering products consistently, on time, and on budget.

  • Manage technical infrastructure billing, reporting progress, including any changes made to plans and production.

  • Work closely with any research and project manager during all phases of the development lifecycle.

  • Review all work produced by the technical team, ensuring code produced meets MDI standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field

  • Minimum of 9 years' experience in the Information Technology field

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in management

  • Ability to work in a multi-project multi-stakeholder environment

  • Strong communication and reporting skills

  • Strong working knowledge in all required software and programming languages

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to delegate responsibilities effectively

Work Mode Designation

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$80,429.00 - $157,238.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
