    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Partnership for Public Service is seeking an experienced professional to join a dynamic team working to promote the use of artificial intelligence, emerging technology and innovation in the federal government. This Manager will manage projects focused on developing federal AI leaders, strengthening federal AI talent capacity and empowering community learning and AI literacy.

    Specifically, this Manager will perform such duties as:

  • Manage a Speaker Series with experts across government, Capitol Hill, industry and academia to explore how AI, machine learning and intelligent automation may impact public service, democracy, ethics and equity.

  • Manage a range of private and public events for senior federal leaders focused on the responsible use of AI.

  • Produce blogs or other written or multimedia content related to our AI programming.

  • Organize, scope and deliver projects, large and small, that bring together leaders in the federal government to discuss key issues and advance agency mission delivery.

    This position is ideal for someone with a strong project management background who also has experience with supervision and delegation and community convening; working with funders and external partners; and demonstrated experience in relationship management. This individual will be responsible for making connections with stakeholders and facilitating the implementation of projects and programs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage projects and programs – or major components of programs – within the Partnership’s federal technology and innovation and AI portfolios.

  • Lead program and project management duties including developing project plans, setting goals and objectives, establishing metrics, developing and monitoring budgets , and driving results through program implementation.  

  • Build and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with government stakeholders and partnering organizations to ensure the successful design and implementation of projects.

  • Lead and participate in diverse project teams, often including external consultants and private-sector partners.

  • Plan, manage and facilitate meetings and events with federal employees and corporate partners.

  • Work with other Partnership teams and external partners to translate insights into action via written publications, advocacy, policy changes, training , or other programming.

  • Lead and contribute to the development of project proposals to secure funding and advance the Partnership’s strategic goals.

  • Willing and able to work effectively as part of a team across the larger enterprise, gathering and sharing information and insights, collaborating to solve problems , and effectively connecting the work to the strategic plan and broader organization.  

  • Able to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and to organize multiple and varied projects simultaneously.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional work or military experience.

  • Five to seven years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated success leading projects to accomplish results.  

  • Master’s degree in public policy, public administration, social science, political science, service design, AI, data science , or a related field, preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge of or experience in or with the federal government preferred.

  • Experience with public interest technology, AI and relevant areas – including human-centered design, participatory design, government technology initiatives, data and evidence-based decision making, modern technology design and delivery, product management , and service design – preferred.

  • Familiarity with program assessment and evaluation preferred but not required.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/REPORTING STRUCTURE

    This position will report to the Senior Manager, Federal Technology & Innovation , and may have supervisory responsibilities.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a hybrid (local remote + office) environment in Washington, DC, and requires the candidate to be a permanent resident in the Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia area. In assessing employee performance at the Partnership, we consider collaboration, results, demonstration of our values and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility. This position requires consistent use of office equipment such as computer, telephone, printer and scanner.

Our performance review process runs the calendar year; we conduct a performance check-in at mid-year and complete a formal full-year assessment at year end. Salary increases are based on the full-year performance assessment.

    POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    This is a full-time exempt position with regular work hours Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. Occasional evening or weekend activities may be required. Please note the Partnership allows flexibility in work schedules.

    TRAVEL

    If travel occurs, it is usually during the business day. Some out of the area and/or overnight travel may occasionally be required.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS

    The Partnership offers a compensation package that includes a competitive salary starting between $70,000 to $95,000; medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 401(k) program with a 4 percent employer match; opportunities for training and development; 15 days of annual leave per year, 10 days of sick leave per year, plus all federal holidays and the day after Thanksgiving off; and use of an on-site exercise facility.
