Electrical Technician Trainee

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Electrical Trainee will assist Electrical Journeyman for on-the-job training (OJT). The Electrical Trainee will help perform electrical installations for large scale commercial projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of street lights, traffic signals, and other facilities,
  • Connects wiring and equipment as per code and job specification,
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit,
  • Pulling and terminating wire,
  • Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools,
  • Assist Electrical Journeyman and follow instructions,
  • Prepares work area for installation of equipment,
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment, using hand tools,
  • Dig trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supports,

``` - Must wear proper attire at all times including: safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image,

``` - May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years,
  • Must be a DC resident,
  • Must possess less than one (1) year of construction experience,
  • Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record,
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team,
  • Must be dependable and reliable,
  • Must possess a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Must be comfortable climbing up ladders and working at elevated and/or subterranean elevations,
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills,
  • Ability to focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times,
  • High school diploma or equivalency is desired,
  • COVID-19 vaccination is highly recommended,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  • This job may require you to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.

In addition, you must have the ability to be on your feet regularly and use hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job. This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces. - This job requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time. - This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts). - This job requires the ability to perform essential job tasks in less than favorable job conditions. These may include, but are not limited to: Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time. - Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
