Job Description

We are seeking a Software Developer to develops, run tests, and maintain current computer programs that provide instructions computers must follow to perform their function. This position will be full-time and on-site.

What You’ll Do

  • Develops, runs tests, and maintains current computer programs that provide instructions computers must follow to perform their function

  • Develops, designs, and tests logical structure for solving problems by computers

  • Writes programs according to specifications, which may be provided by Software Engineers, Systems Analysts, or other computer scientists

  • Updates, repairs, modifies, and expands existing computer programs

  • Converts data from project specifications and statement of problem and procedures to create or modify computer programs, applying knowledge of programming techniques and computer systems

  • Prepares, or receives from systems analyst or other computer scientist, flowcharts and diagrams to illustrate sequence of steps program must follow and to describe logical operations involved

  • Analyzes workflow chart and diagram, applying knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, and symbolic logic. Confers with supervisor and representatives of departments concerned with program to resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements, and inclusion of internal checks and controls

  • Reads manuals, periodicals, and technical reports to learn ways to develop programs that meet user requirements

  • Formulates plan outlining steps required to develop program, using structured analysis and design

  • Designs computer terminal screen displays to accomplish goals of user request

  • Converts project specifications, using flowcharts and diagrams, into sequence of detailed instructions and logical steps; and codes language that can be processed by computer, applying knowledge of computer programming techniques and computer languages.

What You'll Need

Required:

  • Proficient with computer-aided dispatch systems, specifically PremierOne CAD, with the ability to efficiently log calls, manage dispatch information, and monitor unit status

  • Experience with Law Enforcement Analytical and Information Sharing Systems such as the Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LinX)

  • Knowledge of records management systems, with specific experience in BEAST software for report entry, records searches, and data management

  • Proficient in the use of geographic information systems (GIS), particularly ESRI ArcGIS, for mapping and spatial analysis in support of dispatch and emergency management operations.

Desired:

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey information in high-stress situations

  • Ability to multitask and make quick decisions with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal law enforcement databases and reporting systems.

  • Understanding of emergency services operations and the ability to work collaboratively with police, fire, and EMS personnel

  • Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) is considered an asset

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitors
