The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) provides professional patient care under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), implementing and documenting treatment plans in accordance with physician orders and the OT’s plan of care. The OTA utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques and assistive devices to maximize functional potential in all aspects of a patient’s life.
Key Responsibilities:
Implements individualized treatment plans based on the OT’s evaluation and plan of care.
Collaborates with the supervising OT throughout the treatment process to adjust care as needed.
Educates patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic exercises and home programs to support continued progress after discharge.
Completes documentation and billing accurately and in a timely manner.
Ensures all care is provided in alignment with hospital policies, state regulations, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) guidelines, and Joint Commission standards.
Education & Certification:
Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Must obtain an Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the state of practice within 90 days of employment.
CPR certification required within the first 90 days of employment.
AOTA membership preferred.
If assigned to drive a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required. If using a personal vehicle, proof of insurance is also required.
Experience & Additional Requirements:
Work experience preferred, but not required beyond clinical training within an educational program.
Ability to lift 50 pounds, assist with 100 pounds, and push/pull up to 300 pounds.
Must be willing to work at multiple locations as assigned.
