The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) provides professional patient care under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), implementing and documenting treatment plans in accordance with physician orders and the OT’s plan of care. The OTA utilizes a variety of therapeutic techniques and assistive devices to maximize functional potential in all aspects of a patient’s life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implements individualized treatment plans based on the OT’s evaluation and plan of care.

  • Collaborates with the supervising OT throughout the treatment process to adjust care as needed.

  • Educates patients, families, and caregivers on therapeutic exercises and home programs to support continued progress after discharge.

  • Completes documentation and billing accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Ensures all care is provided in alignment with hospital policies, state regulations, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) guidelines, and Joint Commission standards.

    Education & Certification:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

  • Must obtain an Occupational Therapy Assistant license in the state of practice within 90 days of employment.

  • CPR certification required within the first 90 days of employment.

  • AOTA membership preferred.

  • If assigned to drive a company vehicle, a valid driver’s license is required. If using a personal vehicle, proof of insurance is also required.

    Experience & Additional Requirements:

  • Work experience preferred, but not required beyond clinical training within an educational program.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, assist with 100 pounds, and push/pull up to 300 pounds.

  • Must be willing to work at multiple locations as assigned.
