Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking a Technical Consultant with experience of application development on both the IBM Mainframe and modern platforms such as Linux or Windows. This role involves testing and problem determination with issues found from the migration of Mainframe applications from COBOL to Micro Focus COBOL. In addition to COBOL the role requires an understanding of JCL and CICS; an understanding of IDMS, ADS, MQ or DB2 would also be useful. Experience with Assembler would also be a benefit, but not essential.

Required technical and professional expertise

• 10+ years IBM mainframe application or system development experience

• Excellent COBOL programming and debugging skills

• Some familiarity with database design and implementation - any of DB2, IDMS, SQL server, Oracle

• Familiarity with JCL, CICS, MQ, DB2, IDMS, SQL server database or Micro Focus COBOL is an advantage

• Windows and Linux development and deployment experience

Preferred technical and professional experience

• Experience with Assembler would be an added advantage

• Ability and desire to learn and deploy new skills

• Strong communication skills, written and spoken

• Well presented and good interpersonal skills

• Comfortable in customer facing role
