Elevance Health Director II of Account Management - Carelon Behavioral Health in Wallingford, Connecticut

The Director of Account Management will lead and oversee account management activities supporting the external New York market book of business. Responsible for owning the plan P&L and the strategic design of cross-sell and renewal opportunities, the Director will develop a deep understanding of market drivers and create strategic plans to ensure the team meets or exceeds annual retention and revenue goals. The Director will manage a team of Account Executives, ensuring that all business meets profitability standards and regulatory compliance while achieving client retention and revenue targets. Additionally, the Director will nurture strategic internal partnerships with our Growth and Shared Services teams. This role will operate in a hybrid capacity from any of our New York State or New York Metro corporate offices.

How you will make an impact:

  • Provide Leadership and Strategic Direction: Lead account management teams to ensure business meets profitability standards and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with matrix leaders to develop strategies and manage plans to achieve client membership and financial goals.

  • Client Renewals: Develop and implement strategies to ensure that clients renew contracts.

  • Net Promoter Score (NPS): Create and establish strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and improve NPS, focusing on long-term improvement plans that take at least a year to impact.

  • Provider Network Partnerships: Work with network contracting teams to drive value-based purchasing agreements and build strategic alliances with providers in the New York market to improve member access and affordability.

  • Product Development Input: Provide input to the Product Development team on opportunities to create profitable and efficacious products that meet the strategic needs of clients.

  • Team Management: Hire, train, coach, counsel, develop, motivate, and evaluate the performance of direct reports, focusing on building a competent and high-performing team.

  • Travel to customer headquarters and events.

Requires a BA/BS and a minimum of 8 years of professional/leadership experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Leadership experience in account management, preferably in behavioral health, managed care, or health plan commercial or government state client contexts.

  • Expertise in behavioral health products, account management, and managed care.

  • Proven track record of leading teams, managing direct reports, and achieving significant business outcomes.

  • Experience in behavioral health provider network management, pricing, and underwriting.

  • Strong knowledge of client concerns, purchasing behaviors, and market drivers within the health plan sector.

  • Proven experience in negotiating and developing value-based purchasing agreements.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the salary* range for this specific position is $150,240.00 to $270,432
