New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Project Engineer to provide the necessary engineering expertise to identify, plan, design, coordinate, implement and manage multiple construction projects associated with natural gas distribution, transmission or regulator station facilities. Manage project scope, schedule, budgets and subcontractors. Ensure that design and construction activities comply with all federal/state regulations and company standards, while providing the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of gas service to new and existing customers affected by projects.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare work orders, on a timely and accurate basis, for operating pressure requirements for new and existing main installations

  • Prepare construction drawings that accurately depict proposed and completed changes in the distribution system

  • Make effective personal inspections of potential job sites in order to develop an understanding of actual field conditions and the possible effect they may have on system design.

  • Represent the Company at pre-construction meetings, maintain accurate minutes of these meetings, and promote general safety and economic construction standards

  • Design new distribution systems to provide adequate supplies of gas to new customers, including developments and commercial accounts

  • Review construction plans for all roadway projects to determine areas of conflict, and work to minimize the company's financial exposure

  • Oversee corporate transmission and distribution systems, troubleshoot abnormalities, and provide technical advice and assistance to the Distribution, Gas Control, and PMT Departments in providing safe, reliable, adequate, and economic service

  • Evaluate the effects of large volume commercial and industrial customers on the transmission and distribution system, and recommend necessary reinforcements to assure adequate system capacity and pressure

  • Design detailed meter sets for large volume commercial and industrial customers, which require elevated delivery pressure in a safe, yet economical manner

  • Assist the Marketing and Distribution departments in field inspecting customer complaints concerning meter sets and recommend solutions to resolve problems in an expeditious manner.

  • Obtain all necessary voucher checks and all applicable state, county, and municipal permits, and prepare work order and drawings for each installation

  • Work with Division supervisors to prioritize pending rehabilitation work to ensure public safety in the most economical manner

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities determined appropriate by department manager

    Position Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college is required, preferably civil or mechanical

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and negotiation skills

  • Must be detail-oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software

  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS preferred

    This position is deemed safety-sensitive under the U.S. Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s regulations. Among other things, employees in this position are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including pre-employment testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing and post-accident testing. PHMSA-required drug tests include testing for marijuana. The use of marijuana, or testing positive for marijuana, is disqualifying and will lead to removal from performing safety-sensitive functions as well as disciplinary action.
