Central Supply Clerk/Driver Overview

Drivers assist with ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by being responsible for safely transporting and transferring incoming admissions via Elderwood vehicles from hospitals to any of the Elderwood facilities or non-affiliated facilities. In addition, safely transporting medically stable residents/patients via Elderwood vehicles between medical facilities and loading transit disabled, or wheelchair bound passengers in and out of the vehicle. The primary purpose of the Central Supply Clerk is to plan, organize, inventory, and order all medical equipment and supplies for the facility in the most cost-efficient manner, obtaining approval and minimizing waste.

Responsibilities

Central Supply Clerk/Driver Essential Job Functions

  • Obtains Administrator approval for all orders as instructed; clinical requests may be approved by DON, ADON, Administrator, or approved clinical supervisory staff.

  • Completes supply/DME orders for all new patients.

  • Orders supplies based on designated frequency and records on order sheet once delivered (e.g. McKesson).

  • Initiates Aestiva orders as requested and approved. Upon delivery, records as “received” in Aestiva.

  • Prior to submitting DME orders to the companies, completes monthly reviews (or as requested) to identify changes and edit accordingly.

  • Obtains signed scripts or other required paperwork for DME companies.

  • Maintains stock inventory/PAR levels of equipment and supplies on a weekly basis.

  • Completes inventory checklist and stocks shelves accordingly for Nursing and Respiratory closets.

  • Orders equipment from approved vendors and tracks serial numbers.

  • Maintains a neat and orderly stockroom.

  • Rotates stock on a regular basis and monitors expiration dates. Appropriate disposes of expired stock; notifies supervisor if necessary.

  • Arranges new patient carts as directed.

  • Assures equipment is in safe working order. If in disrepair, removes the equipment from use and troubleshoots; obtains parts for repair or sends to appropriate vendor for repair if necessary.

  • Obtains Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and manages according to company policy.

  • May be assigned to deliver or pick up supplies from other sites.

  • Ability to use hands and arms in repeated motions (opening manual passenger doors, steering the shuttle bus, securing wheelchair equipment, etc.).

  • Ability to perform pre and post trip inspection duties that may require stooping, bending, and other similar range of motion activity.

  • Ability to drive and work in all conditions including snow, ice, rain, and nighttime hours in a safe manner.

  • Ability to carry and load baggage and medical equipment.

  • Ability to physically load wheelchair clients and properly operate safety equipment including hydraulic lift.

  • Ability to operate a full size cargo van and small shuttle bus.

  • Ability to assist wheelchair bound and transit disabled passengers in and out of vans.

  • Possession and maintenance of a medical certification card as required by DOT regulations.

  • Drive responsibly and safely in order to ensure passenger safety and minimize damage or excessive wear and tear on facility vehicle; convey any mechanical problems identified with facility vehicle to the Transportation Services Coordinator as soon as possible.

  • Ensure vehicle is in safe operating condition (e.g. fuel, wash, tires, and inspection); notify Transportation Services Coordinator when vehicle needs service.

  • Comply with all State Vehicle and Traffic Laws.

  • Ensure passengers are safely assisted and secured in the vehicle before departing for destination.

  • Ensure safe transport of resident, personal belongings, and medical equipment to destination, as requested by resident.

Qualifications

Central Supply Clerk/Driver Educational Requirements and Qualifications

  • Twenty-one (21) years of age required; high school diploma or equivalency preferred

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a driving related position

  • Valid state driver license with proper class/endorsement

  • Must be clean driving record with no violations (zero points) and no accidents in the previous 36 months. Any violation is subject to individual review and subject to termination or disqualification to drive on behalf of the Company

  • New York Facilities: Initial and continuous compliance with Article 19-A of the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law, which includes among other things, investigation of prior employment, prior and ongoing driving record, penal law convictions and continually passing the medical examinations, required drug testing, vision and hearing tests required pursuant to New York State regulations

  • Knowledge of local roadways and directions, which encompass driving routes

  • Knowledge of fleet vehicles and all handicap equipment including operational and safety procedures

  • Understanding of the rights and needs of transit disabled passengers

  • Proficiency with computers and programs such as Microsoft Office and basic typing skills

  • DME knowledge and purchasing experience preferred

  • High level of efficiency; ability to prioritize and possess time management skills

  • This position requires regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors. In order to ensure a safe work environment for residents, coworkers, visitors, and/or supervisors of the Company, and to permit unfettered communication between the employee and those residents, coworkers, visitors, and supervisors, this position requires that the employee be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language at an intermediate or more advanced level.
