ASRC Federal Holding Company Electronics Technician III / COMMs in Wake Island, Hawaii

ASRC Federal Communications is seeking an Electronics Technician III/COMMs for our ISS2 contact supporting our Air Force customer. This position is on Wake Island, located 2,100 miles west from Honolulu, Hawaii. While working on-site housing is provided in the form of a dormitory facility. All meals are furnished through the cafeteria. You are responsible for the flight from your home base to Honolulu. Transportation from Honolulu to Wake Island is provided by government sponsored aircraft.

General Summary

The Electronics Technician III/COMM provides support for preventative and corrective maintenance at the operator, organizational, and intermediate levels on VHF and UHF radio; radio and television broadcast equipment and associated devices including antennas, cables, transmission lines, connectors, and power supplies. This position also performs routine and corrective maintenance on navigational (NAVAIDS) systems.

Essential Duties and Job Functions

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of all ground navigation (NAVAIDS) and meteorological electronic systems (AWOS) and their related sub-systems using applicable test equipment.

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, modification, repair or removal of all inside and outside plant copper and fiber optic infrastructure.

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of the Giant Voice speaker array system.

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of the analog and digital phone switches.

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of VHF/UHF air-to-ground radio and antenna systems.

  • Performs maintenance, installation, programming, or modification of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) assets, including repeater stations, tone remote units, base stations, vehicle radios, and handheld radios.

  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, installation, modification, or removal of satellite television receive only dishes, receivers, descramblers, modulators, line amplifiers, related cable television distribution systems, and FM radio broadcast and antenna systems.

  • Performs installation, preventative and corrective maintenance of VSAT satellite systems and associated equipment including dish/antennas, modems, routers, and switches.

  • Reports and documents maintenance activities to management.

  • Processes incoming and outgoing parts and supply documents, equipment items, and test equipment (PMEL) appropriately.

  • Maintains required Air Force publication and technical order files (TODO/TODA).

  • Assists the FAA in the performance of periodic flight inspections of radio navigation systems.

  • Assists with the repair and maintenance of switch, long-haul, and IDS systems.

  • Must have FCC PG (General Radiotelephone Operator – elements 1 and 3) License or can get license within 60 days.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

  • Each candidate will work with their IT/Network Technician counterpart to assist in mission support.

Accountable For:

  • The operation of the electronic test equipment associated with radio technology.

  • The operation and maintenance of HF, VHF, and UHF radio.

  • The radio and television broadcast equipment and associated equipment.

  • Safety standards appropriate to the position.

  • Assists with developing procedures and processes.

  • The Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) and weather-related equipment including AWOS server and JET server and interconnecting fiber system.

  • Communications Security (COMSEC).

  • Serves as COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO). Responsible for storage and accountability of classified assets.

  • The proper use of common office machinery, including copiers, fax machines, and computers.

  • Working professionally with a variety of people and personalities.

  • Meeting deadlines and handling potentially highly stressful situations.

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm, diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors, and elevated noise levels. Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces. Occasional lifting, handling, or moving of objects without assistance, weighing up to 35 pounds may be required. Work hours are subject to change, with weekend and/or holiday work as needed.

Requirements :

Job Requirements:

  • Associates degree or better in electronics communications or equivalent job experience.

  • Two (2) years hands-on experience maintaining the following military systems or their FAA equivalent systems: AN/GRN-29 Solid State Instrument Landing System (SSILS) and AN/FRN-45C VORTAC.

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of fiber optic experience and Electronics Technicians Association (ETA) International certification in one of the following areas: Fiber Optics Technician (FOT), Termination Testing Technician (TTT), or Fiber Optics Technician – Outside Plant (FOT-OSP) or the ability to obtain one of these three certifications at own cost within one (1) year of hire.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.

  • Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain SECRET security clearance.

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.

  • Must have FCC PG (General Radiotelephone Operator – elements 1 and 3) License or can get license within 60 days.

Preferred

  • Previous experience with Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) and ESR/MOC Reporting Database System.

  • Prior U.S. Air Force and/or federal government-based experience as a base operations and services (BOS) contractor.

  • Additional engineering/installation on network communication systems or splicing and fabricating copper/fiber optic cables.

  • Tower rescue training certificate.

  • PBX (telephone) switch experience i.e., Cisco Call Manager.
