Work involves enforcement, compliance, and interpretation of the Texas Tax Code and related statutes pertaining to the collection of direct and indirect taxes and fees. This job is a position of public trust and requires a high degree of confidentiality in handling all taxpayer records, information, and payments. This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule of 3 in office days and 2 remote work days once certain conditions are met. Work schedules may change at any time as business necessitates. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development test (GED). 2 years full time work experience in a related field to include but not limited to work in accounting, bookkeeping, a call center, clerical/administrative, collections, or record keeping. Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree. Complete copies of college transcripts must be furnished to the divisional hiring representative at the time of the interview for positions requiring a college degree, and/or specific educational credits. 2 years experience in bookkeeping, a call center, or collections. Substitutions Education requirement may be substituted with up to four (4) years of related experience. Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the administrative support or clerical work experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of two years. Licenses and Certifications A valid Texas (or state of residency) drivers license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas drivers license (or state of residency drivers license); and current proof of automobile insurance. In this role you will: Knowledge of: State and federal laws, rules, and regulations Agency administrati e rules and regulations. Principles and processes for providing customer service and performance of tax compliance and tax collection. General office procedures and equipment. Skill in: Using a personal computer in a Windows environment; access agency and division databases, systems, and mainframe functions; and access Microsoft Word and Excel to create various business documents. Using various office equipment, such as a copier, fax, calculator, personal computers, and associated software applications. Performing basic mathematic computations. Ability to: Manage time well, perform multiple tasks, and organize diverse activities. Research, interpret and apply tax laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Analyze tax situations. Detect tax violations. Prepare reports. Maintain confidentiality and protect privacy of state employees, taxpayers, and other members of the public. Present information in one-on-one and small group situations to taxpayers and internal customers. Document accurate record of delinquent taxpayer communication and action taken on agency and division databases and mainframe systems. Perform in a stressful environment while maintaining a professional demeanor.
