GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Boys’ School (WBS) is a secure facility providing adjudicated delinquent males ages 12-21 years with opportunities to make changes in their lives. Staff members provide supportive services focusing on psychological/emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. Programs are specifically designed for youth to learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking, and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities. This position provides supervision and monitoring of youth during the night shift (10:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.)

Worland is located within the Big Horn Basin along the Big Horn River in beautiful Northwestern Wyoming. Worland has easy access to the Big Horn Mountains to the west and the Wind River Mountains to the south, including the Wind River Canyon.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Utilizes cameras and physical visual checks to monitor students while they are sleeping, maintaining these checks frequently.

  • Documents unusual events.

  • Monitors physical plant, focusing on safety issues.

  • During morning hours, assists in preparing the students for cleaning, breakfast, hygiene, collecting urinalysis and physical training/educational group activities, and school.

  • Provides support and assistance to students.

  • Completes building & perimeter checks frequently.

  • Promptly responds to emergency or crisis situations.

  • Applies physical and non-physical intervention skills in crisis situations where students are hostile, aggressive, and in danger of harming themselves, others, and/or property.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with a high school diploma, plus one year of work experience with the public or youth.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of RIGHT RESPONSE principles.

  • Knowledge of physical and non-physical intervention skills in crisis situations.

  • Skills in observation, basic report writing, and verbal/non-verbal communication.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School Diploma

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services)

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services)

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position takes place in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations.

  • Must remain awake and alert during shift.

  • Must complete the mandatory State of Wyoming and Wyoming Boys' School Training.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • All positions within the Department of Family Services will require a background information check, including the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant. An arrest/conviction will not necessarily bar employment.
