Description

$1000-$1500 per week plus room and board

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Waterfront Director oversees every aspect of the waterfront operations including sailing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, log rolling, fishing, and rowboats on our 400 acre Darts Lake. Must be 21 years of age and hold a Lifeguard Instructor and WSI Certification. The Waterfront Director will ensure that all American Camp Association and NY state health department regulations are met.

RESPONSIBILITIES

•To ensure that above all else, campers are safe and well supervised.

• Be a constant, calm physical presence at the waterfront area using the boat house as storage only.

• To schedule all waterfront specialty classes.

• To complete and submit all Red Cross and YMCA paperwork in a timely manner.

• To supervise, coach and evaluate all waterfront staff.

• To ensure that all staff members are properly trained (up to Camp Gorham standards and the Red Cross’s, YMCA lifeguarding curriculum, etc.) before they run any classes or programs.

• To run and record periodic in-service trainings and emergency drills for are lifeguards and swim instructors.

• To ensure that all lifeguards are attired properly, using a guard tube, and utilizing proper guarding techniques.

• To ensure that all lifeguarding ratios are followed.

• To complete end of the summer inventory sheets.

• To implement daily polar bear swim and to recognize with awards for all participating campers at the closing campfire.

• Organize and implement afternoon opening waterfront assignments for each cabin.

• Plan and implement rainy day/thunder & lightening activities and ensure no interruption of program for campers.

• Work with maintenance on any needs for the waterfront.

• Ensure boat usage remains safe and professional at all times. Working within the Loon preservation guidelines.

• To promote the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

• To provide ongoing informal performance feedback with staff.

• To be fully engaged in all theme based events with regards to costumes and high levels of energy.

• To attend all meals during working hours ensuring to interact with campers and staff. To attend the final staff banquet of the summer.

• To regularly lead songs and skits as required by program.

• To maintain a professional attitude at all times.

• Values camp supplies and keeps accurate inventory of all supplies within area ensuring program is always functional.

• Ensures all areas of camp are kept clean at all times by both leading and participating in regular cleaning duties including end of summer clean up.

• To make sure that all equipment is properly stored when not in use, including securing items that need to be locked up/removed from camper access.

• To carry out other duties as assigned to assure the overall success of the camp

Requirements

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.

• Must have appropriate background and training in program area (to be determined by Program Director).

• Current certification in Waterfront Lifeguarding required.

• Current certification in Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and YMCA Water Safety Instructor (WSI) recommended.

• Personal Vessel Operator’s or Water-ski Instructor License recommended.

• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required.

• Full clean drivers license recommended.

• Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.

• Must successfully complete Staff Training, specifically including the YMCA’s New Employee Orientation and Listen First Learn & Implement Cycle.

• Must sign and demonstrate the YMCA of Greater Rochester’s Staff Pledge.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to visibly observe children.

• Ability to stand for an extended period of time.

• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.

• Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.

• Ability to communicate with parents and children effectively.

• Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.

• Ability to reason, solve problems and make sound decisions even when distracted by noise and activity.

• Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.

• Observe and promote safety and security procedures.

• Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
